Read moreOld or New, AKM (ATATÜRK KÜLTÜR MERKEZİ) has always been the center of Taksim and maybe of İstanbul. The first one was burned down at the beginning of the 70's. The next AKM was demolished 13 years ago because of age. The new AKM was open on the republic day 29 October 2021. The big building facing Taksim square includes the big concert hall, nothing special about it. But next to it, as big as the concert hall, built over the old car park is the cultural center. This is the place to see. There is a beautiful library, a design shop, a musical instruments museum. Kahve Dünyası and Divan Bistro also are located at this part of AKM. Every Turkish citizen living in Istanbul has some sentimental connection with AKM, including myself. I enjoy collecting pens. In all these years, about of a multitude of pens, I only lost one, and it was a black Porche Design ballpoint which fell from my jacket's inner pocket and disappeared within rows of seats of the 2.
