i would like to know what was inside the museum but my adventure was stopped at the door. Even prior to looking inside my bag and going through all the things, the security guy was already rude and behaved like a bouncer from the 90s but not like someone who works at the modern art museum in the capital of the country. The main problem was when he did not to let me go with a small camera that i had in bag and when i refused to leave it downstairs with him. That place has no guarantee of safety of your belongings, not even closing door of the box plus i would hesitate to leave my camera with him. The way he handled the situation was very rude and horrible, when i tried to call the administrator hoping for a better treatment, she behaved in a similar way. It's sad that such people are the face of the museum for visitors! I've visited many museums in different countries, and even if they ask you to leave your bag (usually a big one or a backpack) there is a secure and safe place for them and they do not mind carrying your expensive belongings with you. I think if the museum trusts visitors to come in, they should also trust that the visitor will be civilized enough and follow the guidelines of the museum. Which is NOT to take photos. and not - NOT having a...
Read moreThe best modern art galary in Kiev. Free entrance. Do not take any large belonings with you, as you'll be asked to leave it at the entrance. Coffee bar on the 6th floor with a nice view to the city and the market. If you come at Sunday till the opening - you'll need to wait in a queue for approx 15-20 mins to pass. Better ask someone inside each room the explanation of the performance or the exibition, as it would be hard to understand the real sense of this art, even if you read some words in Ukrainian and English on the wall. I'm visiting this place every single time I'm in Kiev, as it's always smth fresh and exibitions are updated very often, so there is low chance to see smth old, like in Tate Modern. They try to invite not just the Ukrainian, but others modern artists. Highly...
Read moreThis museum rates high on the "weird" scale", but it was too unbalanced for my liking. It was dominated by video-art, and all the videos were all very long. So if you figure there are 20 videos that are 15 minutes long each, it takes a very long time to really "see" this museum. Some of the videos are interesting, but some seem to just be weird with not much of a point (for example, one very long video just shows girls with fake beards dancing in different rooms in slow motion for at least the 15-20 minutes I watched it). I like off-the-wall video art, but I wish it told more of a story or was mixed with different...
