Absolutely terrible. Having carefully chosen a boat without a roof (based on the website photos) - and a day when there was virtually no wind (3 knot) and good waters - we travelled the 2.5 hours to get to Beamaris. A little surprised when we got there the boat had a canopy on top. The seats were eight across - - ie four each side. As we were sat in the middle probably not a good start for photography. I turned slightly sideways which then meant the people to one side of me could see past - so they asked me to place my body in forwards direction The worst was yet to be realised. The boat approached the island in an anti clockwise manner - rapidly shooting past the flocks of breeding birds we had come to see. People on the starboard side could hardly see a thing. However on the far side of the island a couple of puffins in the water, and the captain attempted to turn the boat round so people on the starboard side could get a view -but it was a fail. People on the starboard side saw absolutely nothing . The commentary from the captain blared out - whilst the taped narrative didnt run in time with what we were seeing.Sorry to the three ladies to my right - who certainly didnt have a good trip I joined the three people in front complaining at the kiosk - the guy effectively said we know we have got a problem but there is nothing we can do.
This felt like a con - the captain didnt care (other than getting back as quickly as possible) - and the# boat was simply poorly designed. Half will have a good (not great) trip - the other half WILL be disappointed.
I would suggest trying sea coast safaris instead. they seem to spend significantly longer at the island, in a significantly better viewing boat, which the captain seemed to make sure everyone got a...
Read moreWe booked a short break to Anglesey based on going on this trip. The day before we were due to go on the boat trip it was cancelled due to the weather forecast, however it turned out to be beautiful weather. No matter as I had called when I received the cancellation and we were able to be booked on for the following day.
We had a lovely morning exploring Beaumaris castle. Then on to our cruise to Puffin Island, to find nobody at the Starida kiosk, just a hand written note to say they should be running the next day so our trip apparently cancelled, again!! The weather was good, so I dont understand. I had not received a message or email to tell us of the second cancellation (the message came through later on in the evening. I assume bad signal so my phone didnt receive notifications of cancellation).
Luckily for us we found another fantastic company (Sea coast safaris) who were running their cruises, so very thankful we were able to join them and my 5 and 6 year olds went from very disappointed to happy 😊
I can't help but feel Starida hadn't enough people booked on to warrant them taking their boat out as I confirmed with the other company if they had ran theirs both days to which they had!
I would not recommend Starida for the fear of them relying on what I can only assume a Michael Fish forecast. Or worse, possibly not having enough bookings to make it worthy going out (I assume this as the weather was good both days). I am disappointed with the way they run and unfortunately I will never book with them again nor would I...
Read moreThe fishing trip I and my son did with Starida in August was excellent. The communication beforehand was really good, the staff were polite and helpful (so valuable these days because sadly rare) and we caught 9 mackerel (which was good for us but apparently not a brilliant catch for one of their trips). I would recommend this company. I'd like to have given 4.5 stars. The only reason I'm giving less than 5 is because I had 3 cancellations of trips with Starida before getting to go on one, which was disappointing. The cancellations weren't Starida's fault. The first one was for safety reasons (something needed to be fixed on the boat) and the second two were for weather reasons. I'd rather they were cautious and protected the safety of customers than go ahead when there may be potential dangers. My advice to potential customers would be to book knowing that the trip may be cancelled for weather reasons and to be flexible about it. Whatever you do, make sure you sign up for text notifications on your trip. Starida were very good at sending these out in good time to inform customers whether the trip looked like it would go ahead or not. Stick with it and when you do actually get to go, I'm sure you'll really enjoy it and find it worth the...
