If you want a proper grown up weekend away this is a great place to go. It's a lovely old hotel and the rooms are sympathetically decorated in the style an old building like this deserves. We had room 1 which is at the top of the building and is a lovely quiet room with a large comfy bed and nice big bathroom. The shower was very powerful and hot.
The heating went off in the morning and did not come on again until 3:00 pm so it was a bit chilly sometimes, we usually went out in the morning and returned after lunch, it was too cold for walking so we stayed in our room and read our kindles in the afternoon. Heating an old building like this must be an economic nightmare so I have some sympathy but it would put me off staying here again during cold weather. The room was lovely and warm once the heating worked its magic but the heated towel-rail in the bathroom was not adequate for the size of the room.
Neither the small TV or the WiFi worked in this room, in fact the wifi wasn't much use anywhere else in the hotel but that didn't spoil the weekend, the O2 phone signal was not too bad so most of the time I used by phone as a hot spot and was able to access the internet on my small laptop, we even managed to watch 'Death in Paradise' using BBC iplayer.
The secret weapon of this Hotel is the restaurant, the food is fantastic. The beef Bourguignon was the best I've ever had, all the meals our group had were excellent and we ate here 2 nights. The breakfast was also good and all the staff were polite and helpful.
I've given a 4 star review but in reality the restaurant is 5 stars and the hotel is 4 stars (5 stars in...
Read moreWhilst working in the area I called in to speak with the proprietor. As I walked in a lady was behind reception talking on the phone. She asked the person on the phone to wait so she could speak to me. I explained briefly in a matter of seconds who I was, she pulled a face and rudely waved me away without understanding what was the reason for my visit. To make things worse, after waving me away she immediately went back to her call and said ' its a nusense call, I'm sure you get them all the time' knowing I would hear every word she said. I left the business and carried on with my work. Shortly after I was walking back down the road and past the front door. As i stood outside the hotel the front door was slammed shut, not just closed but slammed. Absolutely disgusting behaviour. In these times with restrictions are in place i would have thought whoever is front face of this business would be going above and beyond to welcome whoever into there business, you never know why they are there no matter what first impressions might be!! For example, my first impression of the hotel is that it looks dated with a distinct lack of customer service, which leads me to think if I had to recommend anyone wanting to stay in the area i would definitely be advising people to look elsewhere for accommodation if traveling to Beaumaris, but obviously i could be wrong (but I don't...
Read moreThe town of Beaumaris is very pretty with lots of quaint shops, all beautifully decorated for Christmas. Bishopsgate hotel is situated on the Main Street yet next to the sea , perfect for lovely walks and visiting the castle. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the rooms are a little dated but bedding was beautifully clean and bathroom had bath/shower which was lovely to have a soak after our 9mile walk earlier. Parking is available at the rear of the hotel. We had a Travelzoo voucher, which included a contribution towards the evening meal. Usually we tend to choose a local restaurant when going away, as hotel dining rooms sometimes disappoint….but this hotel was the exception…our dishes were cooked perfectly and well presented, the staff were attentive and friendly. Breakfast the next morning was fabulous too, lots of choice..kippers, porridge, full English, fresh fruit, etc. We thoroughly recommend this hotel and...
