We had recieved recommendations from multiple sources about The Midland so decided to go for lunch on Tuesday 20th August. We walked in around 12:30 without a reservation. There was a free table in the front room but it was presumably reserved and we were shown to a table in the back which was rather cramped and dark. The menu in the window was different to the menus we were handed so unfortunately, my daughter couldn’t order her desired dish. Nowhere on the menu did it mention the size of the dishes or the number to order per person. When the waitress arrived and we placed our order, we were belittled bluntly for not understanding that the portions were small and we should order 2-3 per person, to the point that my youngest daughter was holding back tears. When the food arrived, it was excellent. One of the dishes we ordered was a vegan paella. However, the waitress brought us a paella which clearly had chorizo and chicken in it. Luckily we spotted this, but it did take the waitress five minutes before she realised her mistake and came back to take it away. Luckily, two members of our party do not eat meat due to personal choice rather than any medical issues or allergies, otherwise this could have been fatal! We were served by three waitresses, only one of whom caused the problems (dark, straight hair and a blue bandana). We won’t...
Read moreUltimately, disappointing. I visited The Midland 3 years ago and had really enjoyed it, hence me returning. Unfortunately this time was a different dining experience.
My understanding is that tapas is a fairly informal and relaxed way to enjoy Spanish food where it is brought out when as and when it is ready. This meal felt rushed with all five of the dishes we ordered arriving within 15 minutes, and only being luke warm.
The SERVICE, although not bad, was very basic with no enquiry as to how our dining experience was going
The DRINKS were enjoyable but nothing interesting to set the establishment apart from local competition.
The FOOD has seen an increase in price and did not meet my expectations. It was also consistently luke warm rather than hot. It felt as though we were rushed through our meal due to the level of rapid food arrival, which impacted on our dining experience.
It should be noted that I appreciate that the hospitality sector has had an incredibly difficult time over the past couple of years.
Unfortunately if this results in very average service, ok food and a feeling of being rushed then ultimately customers will seek a better dining experience. I hope this feedback is received as constructive and supportive as I don’t enjoy writing such reviews but feel it necessary to inform of...
Read moreAttitude 5 of us booked a table last Saturday (13th July) at 8pm lovely table by the window at the front. The front door was open, two of our party at the end of our table were a little chilly so we closed the door. About five to ten minutes later the waiter (who we now know was the supervisor) came over and asked if he could open the door again. We said that it was a little cold/drafty with it open, before we had a chance to say anything else he said"well it will be your fault if we all faint" not even in a jokey way. At about 8.30 he came back over again and asked if we were ready to order, we said that we were not quite ready, he then said"you know we finish food at 9 pm" again with attitude. We wouldn't have minded this if it was 8.50 but to say it at 8.30 !! we decided to leave. I went to the bar to pay for the drinks we had. The supervisor kind of apologised that we had taken offence but too late at that stage. The waitress then followed us out and asked what the problem was, told her the situation, she took our details and told us that someone would be in touch....5 days later and we still haven't heard anything!!! It's a shame as we were looking forward to our meal as we had read so many good...
