My experience starts with an order online. The reviews on Google seemed good and since we were staying for 1 night it seemed decent enough. We ordered a few dishes, Chilli Paneer, chilli chips, paneer Masala, Bombay Aloo, tarka daal and Honey Chilli Chicken.
I ordered for collection and made my way within 30 minutes of ordering. Upon arrival I was told that the naans were not ready so I ended up waiting an extra 20minutes. While waiting for the food, during a conversation with a waiter, they mentioned that the chef is from Birmingham. "Great! I'll get a proper curry" I thought to myself.
I found the Chilli Chips, Chilli Paneer, Paneer Masala and Honey Chilli Chicken to be overly sweet.
So sweet that I had to contact the restaurant and complain. The waiter on the phone tried to convince me that all of the dishes I ordered were sweet dishes. Now I'd agree that the Honey Chilli Chicken will have a sweetness but I also expected a level of spice. For a dish which has the word "chilli" in, I was not expecting any sweetness from the paneer and the chips. The colour of the dishes was just not nice. You can clearly tell food colouring was added to the Paneer Masala which is totally unnecessary. My theory is that the restaurant is using canned tomato and therefore need to add a little sugar to cut through the acidity of canned tomatoes.
The waiter continued to argue that these are sweet dishes and it is what's stated on the website. Upon review of the website the chilli chips said "Chilli sauce topped with fresh green chillies" but the taste had me thinking the chef came from Cadbury World in Birmingham. The waiter refused to even try and remedy the situation instead saying "we cannot do anything as these are the dishes you ordered". After some more discussion, the waiter agreed to refund the 3 dishes within 7 days.
I will give credit where it is due. The tarka daal was mediocre at best and the Bombay aloo was bland so at least it was a nice departure from dessert style dishes I experienced from the rest of my order.
I will update this to confirm if I receive a refund as my trust in Sarisa has been reduced to 0 after the poor management of...
Read moreI've always ordered takeaway from this place because I honestly love the food. However, I'm so disappointed by the behaviour of the staff and the hidden costs of food! Initially, it seemed alright, but then when we were finishing our dinner, we did want some takeaway boxes. With a group of 6 people, it's not unreasonable to ask for 6 tiny boxes, but the staff gave us 3 free ones, and charged us for the other 3. Additionally, we were charged nearly 9 pounds for water as well as around 17 pounds for poppadoms and the chutney tray! (Which we weren't aware we'd be paying so much for) Neither were we asked if we'd like to have still or tap because why is water a charge at the restaurant? Absolute rubbish. We weren't even asked if we'd like dessert, just handed the bill. The worst part of my experience is that for making a dish a tad spicy, they charged me money, which I think is so ridiculous. Given how I am originally from India and have been to so many restaurants in the UK, the vibe of this place does not match the culture of authentic India, and that is very disappointing. Lastly, I'd like to add that I did see a member of staff being extremely rude to another a few times, I felt genuinely bad and thought why was it necessary to put someone down who is already working a difficult job. This place needs a serious environment upgrade. Overall, it was a 3 star place, and only because the chef greeted us amazingly and his character reflected in the food. I'm not going to visit it again, unfortunately. You've lost a...
Read moreMediocre Indian restaurant with poor service, staff with attitude and prices that compete with those in London.
Entering the courtyard in which the restaurant is located is via an archway with lights all over it, and it looks inviting. Attempts to create an ambience stop here.
The ubiquitous Indian music is playing in the dining room that has had a complete scrub of anything to give it character.
Fortunately, the food is perfect for this lack of atmosphere. I am guessing that sauces are all prepared in bulk or most likely from bought in sources and simply mixed with the rest of the food.
My food certainly was a colour not found in the real world with the addition of large volumes of E numbers and additives. Unfortunately, none of the additives added much in the way of flavour. The same could be said for the rest of the food. South Indian cuisine can be excellent, and if you want good quality South Indian dishes, don't waste your time with this place as the London prices are not deserved.
Wine, however, wasn't bad, but again overpriced (but let's be honest, this isn't unusual).
"Service" was appalling with one member of staff being lecturing and simply rude, and the others not having the first idea about the basics.
I understand it is the only Indian restaurant on the island, and I guess it survives because of the lack of good competition, but would suggest you get your Indian fix from somewhere else as this place could be prosecuted for the damage to...
