This is my local museum. It is the Regimental Museum of The Royal Welsh Regiment, an amalgamation of many regiments, including The South Wales Borderers, more famously known as the 24th Regiment of Foot. It is a fascinating place to explore. Its collection spans more than 300 years of regimental history, with artefacts gathered from all over the world. The Medal Room is especially impressive, holding around 3,000 medals. At the heart of the museum is the Victoria Cross case, which displays sixteen replicas representing the originals—still owned by the regiment but far too valuable to be shown. The real jewel, though, is the Zulu War Room. This gallery brings to life the dramatic story of the 24th Regiment of Foot during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879, made famous by the classic films Zulu and Zulu Dawn. For their bravery in that campaign, the regiment was awarded 13 Victoria Crosses at the battles of Rokes Drift and Isandlwana alone. It was after these actions that Queen Victoria herself called them “The Noble 24th.” 9 of the 11 VC’s won at Rorke’s Drift are still held by the museum, making it, arguably, the most valuable medal collection in the world. On top of this, the museum holds an extensive archive (available to researchers by appointment) as well as a rich collection of paintings, dioramas, drums, assegais, ammunition, uniforms, badges, and countless other artefacts. It’s a must-visit for anyone with an interest in history.

Excillent little museum. Well worth a visit while in Brecon. The Guide working there very informative and took time to really explain about the Zulu's. To think 800 of the 4000 who marched on R-Drift had already fought a battle, the jogged 15miles and fought again for another 8hrs were already aged 50yrs old.. Simply takes a breath away and deserves upmost respect. By the end of the battle the British were on last of their ammo. So just maybe 1 more hour, or simply going there first.. Things could been so different. Also never realised the colour of their sheilds were depending on age, and how experienced the Zulu is. So enjoy, take your time and enjoy this little museum.

Fascinating museum covering the history of Welsh regiments over the years and campaigns. An impressive medal room and moving display of artefacts from the Zulu campaign and Rourke’s Drift. Spent a couple of hours there and the entrance price was well worth the entry - ignore bad reviews. In fact the museum was currently free to visit due to encouraging visitors back after closure due to flooding and temporary closure, we donated the entry fee anyway

A priceless gem of military history devoted to the Welsh Guards. Parking opposite near the canal or behind museum in Morrisons. Both are cheap compared to main stream car parks. Wheelchair accessible. So much to see its mind blowing and most little boys n girls with any military interest will never forget this awesome little place. A good hour n a half can fly by as it did for us..Many cafes, pubs, restaurants are but a stones throw away & combined with a picturesque canal barge ride just a 2 min walk away or a visit to many varied shops in central Brecon (u r already in it) makes for brill day for u, kids & g/parents alike...Entry = £5/6...So so worth it...A must see venue. Loo's on site. No tearoom but sandwiches...
