Sat 21st Sept 2024.. took a trip out to Brecon and decided to try something new and different. Decided on the Gurkha Curry for an evening meal. My word, am I glad we did. The entrance looked a little obscure and we weren't sure it was the right place, but were reassured by a friendly welcoming smile and given our table. Seating is arranged that there is not a huge amount of room, but there was enough space and a cosy cubby for smaller groups and all was well sufficient for two rather larger framed people. Ordered Pyaj Pokora (vegetarian dish) and Cheese Kukhura for starters. Both dishes arrived in a short time but were perfectly cooked, hot, and delicious. If this was the starter, then the main course should be as good or better. Main courses were King Prawn Kosheli with Chyau Bhat and Aloo Tama Bodi (veggie)with Bhat... and Garlic naan. When the dishes arrived, I dipped into my King Prawn dish and found the most unbelievable coconut flavoured sauce to accompany the king prawns... so delicious that my partner, a vegetarian, partook in the sauce and the instant look on her face said that she found it equally as good. Both meals and both starters were absolutely fantastically tasting, cooked to perfection, and of a perfectly balanced size in volume. Looking around, I saw others dishes and every one looked just as appetising as the other. There are two toilets near the entrance which are on the small size, but adequate. Both were immaculately clean at the time I was there. The whole place looked clean and the staff were well presented and most polite. Having never eaten this kind of food before I would most certainly advise at least one visit. There is a good selection of starters and main courses for vegetarians and access may be manageable for wheelchair users though the main and only entrance was a little narrower that perhaps some wheelchairs would need.. There is a local authority carpark nearby that, being the forward-thinking Powys Council, offers FREE parking after 6pm.. what more do you need for a lovely evening and a fabulous meal.

Negative Marks for Social Distancing, Track and Trace. The restaurant doesn’t follow social distancing measures, the seating arrangement is pretty crammed. There is no track and trace form filling. Long wait times. Absolutely delicious food - the food tops it all. It’s a shame they ran out of momos but overall pretty impressed by the Gurkhali flavours. A lot of people assume that Nepali 🇳🇵 food is akin to Indian cuisine and flavours match. While we do share the same bread (nan/chapati), Nepali cuisine have some exponentially awesome ones like Gilo roti and Sel roti. The curry flavours are distinctly awesome, you can taste the curry with a lot of strong spices unlike some generic Indian curries. I was delighted with the Himali Khukhura, which is like a patty of minced chicken in thick gravy. This went remarkably well with the garlic 🧄 naan. I’d recommend this restaurant- however they need to atleast get the track and trace system in place given so many people are casually seated side by side.

I give it 5* because of the combination of good food for a reasinable/low price in a very nice ambiance. It's not a five star restaurant, but the dishes they serve are well spiced and very well (rather low!) priced. The food isn't 'overspiced', but the spices are in balance. I like that. They serve hot food, but also have their share in medium hot or not hot. Extra plus: the upstairs dinning room where you will have your conversations with people you haven't met before, simple because of the way the room is organised!! I are there twice and had lovely conversations with other guest. Service: friendly with a warm smile.

AVOID! I’m not one to leave reviews generally but our experience at the Gurkha Corner today was simply terrible. We visited as a group of 7 guys around 1:30pm and was informed final orders were to be made as they close for the afternoon at 2pm. Since that it seemed they wanted to get rid of us so they could close. 3 of us ordered set menus and although the starters came quickly, the mains never came out. When asking them where our food was the waiter would disappear for a number of minutes and return to say it was coming without any explanation or apology. Bearing in mind the other 4 members of our party who had only ordered only mains had finished their food at this point. We ended up cancelling the meal to which the waiter was happy as it meant he didn’t have to serve us anymore. It genuinely felt like he wanted to get rid of us so they could close because at this point we were the last people in the restaurant. If they couldn’t serve us I only wish they’d told us when we first came in rather than deliver this terrible service. The 3 set menus totalled £55, and we were given a £22 discount, meaning we each paid £11 for a bowl of rice, some seasoned spinach starters, a poppadom and chutney, a simple salad and some lentils. We left full because of all the rice we had eaten but far from satisfied. The service was terrible and above all else there was nothing in the form of acknowledgement of wrong doing, it came across like they didn’t care at all! Avoid at...

I'm really sad that I'm not able to leave a good review here as I believe all businesses deserve support from customers, especially in the current climate. However I felt let down for the money we spent on our dinner and the food we barely touched. Neither the rice nor our main dishes had any flavour whatsoever. Both our dishes were watery with no texture. The chutney that was served with poppadoms were also pure watery liquid. I'm truly baffled as the majority of reviews here suggest otherwise. I'm not sure whether something was wrong with their kitchen this evening or if other reviewers have different standards. We only had a few spoons before we left the place. Despite seeing our plates being full of untouched food, no one bothered asking if something was wrong with the meal, had they asked I'd let them know straightforwardly. The only positives I can say is that poppadoms were tasty and the only lady who works there is friendly. The portions are much smaller than other Asian restaurants in the area which would have not been an issue had they provided at least a decent meal. It really felt like they didn't care about what they were serving. If you're familiar with Asian cuisine and appreciate flavoursome dishes, you may want to...
