A perfect spot to enjoy a light lunch with friends overlooking Bude Canal and Summerleaze Beach. The view from the conservatory is great especially when the waves are splashing up and over the breakwater. The staff are very friendly, good value for money, delightful cake selection and it is open all year round. Well worth a visit time and again.

Loved the little beepers that told you your order is ready - why don't all cafes have these?? The view is lovely in the conservatory, overlooking the mouth of the bay/beach/canal and the service was friendly and quick. Just had coffee and cakes but very well priced.

We popped in for lunch and expected a lot more given the reviews so far. Given the price on the menu of a sandwich - £4.95 - I hoped it would be something a bit more special than what I could buy in the supermarket. No one expects you to spend £4.95 on just a sandwich, right? I ordered tuna mayo, and hoped for a sandwich on a plate, maybe with some salad to make it worth nearly a fiver. What I actually got was a boxed sandwich, bone dry due to an apparent lack of mayo, not even with any salad in it, and a bag of crisps. We then ordered 2 coffees (and a sandwich for my partner), and spent a grand total of £14.90. Save yourself the money and pop to a supermarket for a £3 meal deal, then a coffee shop for a coffee separately.... you'll probably spend less, and you'll get the meal deal drink as extra! The only thing stopping this from having 1 star is the view, but that in no way offsets the extortionate costs, or...

It was my wife's birthday and she wanted something like a high tea to share with other family members including young grandchildren. It was a Sunday when we were trying to find somewhere, so quite difficult. However, with help from tourist info we found The Castle at Bude. We had a really lovely tea the following afternoon, with a range of very tasty sandwiches and absolutely delicious cakes along with mince pies and cream. Pots of tea were included all for a very reasonable price. The table was laid nicely and service was helpful and friendly. We were delighted with it all and it was precisely how my wife wanted it to be. Many thanks to all concerned at the cafe. Geoff WP & family Having read some negative reviews I'd like to add that our feelings about the cafe and the staff are entirely the opposite. Some folks though are...

took us nearly an hour to get a pot of tea and some cake. (half a hour spent queuing, another half hour waiting, despite the queue looking fairly short.)

They were clearly short staffed but were not looking to hire any paid workers so I doubt the service level will change soon.

Once we got our tea and cake, we found the tea was very weak, as they'd used one (probably cheaply branded) tea bag for the whole teapot. Couldn't taste the tea. Also the cake was small, like 2 mouthfuls, and bone dry.

The cafe was on the expensive side, so this time "you get what you pay for" doesn't apply.

We won't be using the cafe again if we visit...
