Also the hotel was roasting hot throughout, we were told this was just how this hotel was. Search online for more reviews...

Before attending the hotel we had seen some pretty bad reviews. We thought we'd give it a shot. We wished we hadn't. The first room we was given smelt of cigarette smoke that had attempted to be covered with air freshener. We went out to get a bit of food (would definitely recommend the Indian restaurant on the corner) when we came back we tried to chill out for abit and watch a bit of TV but the smell was so bad it had started to effect my husband's breathing. He had started to wheeze. We went down to reception and spoke to a lovely lady that gave us another room. She was very apologetic, after all it wasn't her fault. The second room was much better than the first. Don't get me wrong, the room was still shabby and quite dirty, but the linen was clean and there wasn't a cigarette smell. The breakfast sold to us online was a full English, but we was told yesterday that we would essentially get a doggy bag of a continental breakfast. That wasn't too bad. The entrance and reception area was beautiful, but the rest of the hotel is in desperate need of a deep clean and some serious money spending on it. The receptionist was lovely though!

First the plus points: The hotel is well located in the centre of the city. Short walks to local sights. Good parking. Friendly staff. The bad points: The building is extremely old and in need of complete renovations. Some of the rooms are huge and others are tiny. It is just pure luck on which sized room you'll get. The floorboards are creaky throughout. Walking around in my room, I woke up my wife. Even the floors in the passages are creaky. In fact there were parts of the hallway on the second floor that the floorboards had holes in them and the carpets were sinking in! There is no soundproofing in the interior or exterior walls. We were on the second floor and could hear the nightlife and gulls through the windows and walls. When people walked pass our room in the hall, we could make out their conversation word for word. There were cracks in our bathroom sink and tiles. The breakfast dishes and tables were sticky. The owners should spend money on fixing up what could be a great place to stay.

Well this was interesting, initially I was met with an entrance door that had been boarded up which filled me with confidence. Check in was straightforward and the staff in duty were very pleasant. It was disappointing that no food was available at the hotel. Upon entering the room I was surprised to see it resembled a bedsit rather than a hotel room with a small TV and a sofa placed on one side of a room that was completely out of proportion. Bathroom was a bit rough around the edges and the toilet seat kept sliding off. The most amazing feature of this room however was the unbelievably creaky floors! I've never heard anything like it and I felt sorry for anyone who may have been in a room below. I didn't sleep too badly, but that might have been more down to the 5 or 6 pints I had in Brewdog across the road than the comfort of the bed. Safe to say I made an exit not long after waking up the next morning, making me uncharacteristically early for work.

Well.. where do I start? The location is amazing, in the heart of Carlisle, the view is more than anyone can ask for, you can see the Citadel and town centre, access to a lot of activities, parking, the hotel doesn’t have many spaces, but there are a lot of car parks within 2 min walking distance. The staff was amazing, the room was big and clean, the bed was great and we enjoyed our stay, even if we chose the wrong timing (town centre can be loud during weekends, but if you enjoy partying, this is the place for you to stay). I am only giving 4 ⭐️ because, with all the good sides, there was one thing that bothered me a lot, the room was very cold and the heating was off, which made us unable to sleep properly. Overall, I would return here during summer 😊
