For me it wasn't really worth the £10 entry fee, I've seen much better museums for less. However I still give three stars for it's collection of Women's costumes spanning over 300 years and the story of the Reivers. For things like the Roman History section, you're better off visting an actual Roman Fort, particularly one with a museum. There aren't that many artifacts displayed here. The story of the Reivers did interest me; I'd never heard of them before. For a period of 300 years, these people, made up of a variety of family groups, causes havoc in the border lands. Having no respect for either English or Scottish rule, they plundered, stole, mudered, kidnapped and blackmailed folk in the border lands. It's where the word bereived comes from. If you were visited by these raiders, and lost a family member, you were "be reived". James 1st brought their reign of destruction to an end in the early 1600s. I would visit the Castle instead and the very good "Cumbria's Museum of Military Life" which is included with your Castle ticket.

I am giving Tullie 3/5 because although the things inside are amazing, it is £30 for 2 people, which is out of budget for most low income people. I think they should offer a discount for students, people on benefits or low income, because the educational things inside the museam are actually of more value to the working class than to rich people who already will have seen those things many times. That's just my own opinion about the price. You can keep that ticket for 1 year so if you live there it isnt a bad deal. The museam part is very interactive, you can try stuff on, do activities, touch things etc. The gallery part had amazing art, but it was borrowed from another gallery that has free entry, so again, wasn't happy about the cost.

Reviewing the cafe only - I’ve not yet been to the museum. Yesterday I was in Carlisle for an appointment and I needed a place to let my son run around before I had to bring him into an office. The gardens were lovely, and there were lots of school aged children running around in paper hats they had made because the museum offered half-term activities. I sat outside and had a tea while my son exploded the garden and tried to copy the other kids’ games. The woman in the cafe was very sweet and told me all about the different exhibits and activities and recommended the poppy display at Carlisle castle. We will definitely come back and go inside the museum on a rainy day. Yesterday I was just really happy to enjoy the garden.

Oh my goodness this is the most amazing museum in Carlisle. As a lover of Hadrian’s Wall and Roman history it had a great diverse range of knowledge about that and the Roman influence in Carlisle. Also has art galleries, other periods of history of Carlisle and the Scottish Borders. It really taught me about Britain’s bloody history. It also has natural history, and art galleries too. There is a café here but I’m sorry to say I found the staff there really miserable looking. A young girl served me two coffees, which I asked for, I thanked her but I didn’t a “you’re welcome” in reply. Good manners cost nothing. However, don’t let that put you off coming here, it’s absolutely brilliant.

It was a pleasure to visit this museum, which has a garden outside that was relaxing to eat my lunch in and the tickets are valid for up to a year after purchase so it is great that I can return for free! There are many informative exhibitions, including displays of artifacts and clothing from eras like the Roman and Victorian ones. Replicas of incident that happened in the past such as the Roman crime scene drew much interest, providing an insight into what it actually looked like back then. I was happy to be able to pick up a mock-up shield and the walls in the museum had very unique designs too, while the art gallery featured aesthetically pleasing work.

Fascinating place definitely recommend for a rainy day. It's only £12 for an annual pass which is great if you've got children too. It's very spacious, I was able to push my toddler around in the pram with no issues. There's lots of little interactive bits for the youngsters to get involved with. There's Soo much to see from Romans and viking to animals and trains and art! The cafe is quite nice. The food doesn't blow you away so to speak but it's decent enough. The toilets were nice and clean and the staff were all very pleasant overall. I would definitely recommend Tullie House and keep an eye out for events they put on :D
