Peakender 2018 First time at Peakender and had a great time! We arrived around midday on Friday and the event was well signposted. We weren’t sure whether we’d be able to park next to our tent or not and the parking did turn out to be in a separate field, not far at all but maybe bring a trolley if you have a lot of gear. Getting our wristbands was quick and easy, possibly due to the time we arrived, we asked if barbecues were allowed as this wasn’t clear in the FAQs but no one seemed sure - turns out they aren’t, good job we also had a camping stove. The event itself was great, amazing beer list, staff, food, location etc. It just had a great feel to it. Only downside was the queuing for drinks on Saturday, it was so bad lots of people left the site. This issue was acknowledged straight after the event by the organisers and they’ve committed to sorting it out for next year. We didn’t attend any of the talks but heard good things, most of the music wasn’t to our taste but inoffensive with some highlights. All in all Peakender has now become another event that I look out for and book tickets as soon as they become available!

Bakewell festival is a yearly event which is worth a visit but it’s not cheap. £5 to park the car then another £16 per person to enter the venue. Its mainly stalls to buy expensive gifts, mostly dog stalls or craft stalls. A couple of fairground rides. ( not many at all. Plenty of eateries, plenty of toilet facilities. I was surprised how many dogs were there but no water bowls dotted around. You have to buy your own water for your pets. I was a bit let down to be honest. A very expensive day out and little to see except spend at the stalls.

A charity event which sponsorship for trekkersvon either 26 or 13 Mike routes. Well organised, parking was a slight concern as the field was a bit bumpy and wet , but in the end it was no trouble. We had hired portaloos. We didn't use any of the showground facilities as far as I could see. It's a great location especially from the south as you bypass the town itself.

Bakewell is a beautiful place in the middle of Derbyshire. I like to think of it as my 'Fortress of Solitude'. Whenever I want somewhere serene and peaceful to go, Bakewell wins hands down. Plenty of reasonably priced shops. More than enough places to eat in, or take out, and the scenery is magnificent! If you have children, you can take them for a stroll along the river banks and get them to count the fish 😊. There are many things to keep you entertained, you only need to take a walk around and you'll find them.

PS: Monday is market day. Something else added to the list of...

The wife and I parked here for a day's walking. All machines in the car park (which should have taken card payments) were not working (lack of network connectivity...) I tried to call the number on the sign to speak to a person regarding this but alas, no-one works there on Saturdays. In the end, I just wrote a note, left it on the dashboard with a copy of the 'rejected' card payment receipt and hoped that if a traffic warden came by; common sense would prevail.

Fortunately it did but the worry of getting clamped etc did, somewhat, put a bit of a...
