Came in to ask why our androgynous friend was refused a haircut and were given a whole lot of muddy logic about this being an "all male environment." Don't understand why it was such a big deal to them. My friend (who has no interest in creating conflict and who accepts being called "she" in an effort to make things easy for people who have trouble with other pronouns) always gets "men's haircuts" and was surprised and disappointed being rejected like that, especially because she and our other friend (who the barbers would have given a haircut to no prob) specifically came to the shop to get haircuts from those specific barbers because they liked the aesthetic. When we tried to bring this up, the staff and owner kept defending their rejection of her by saying things like "she can go to the unisex barber" and "where do you draw the line?" and telling us we were making a big deal of it and they're not bigots. I disagree. I would have loved to not make this a big deal. But they are acting like bigots, so that's what you're getting into if you decide to patronize this establishment. Hopefully in the future it will be different. They'll just do their job, take money, give haircuts and not alienate potential clients because they as hipster barbers believe they can classify and reject someones entire identity based on a 5 second...
Read moreWhilst a casual view from the exterior may lead you to (quite forgivably) believe you have unfamothambly stumbled into the late 19th century, a more refined view from inside will certainly help to allay any barber-surgeon inspired worries which may spring to mind. The chaps who work here are - without exception - stellar. The scholar (for I can think of no more accurate a word to describe someone of such knowledge) who crafts the coffees has forgotten more about said scrumptiously bitter beans than most of us will ever know. This is particularly good news when a haircut includes one of these ravishing beverages in the cost. The barbering itself is faultless. I have not received a more refined trim in all my years - and I have certainly coughed up more for an inferior service elsewhere. The exceptional barbering and brew-crafting combined with expert recommendation of appropriate products will have you leave feeling every bit the remarkable...
Read moreI have visited Seventh Seal for both coffee and a haircut.
Coffee: The whole experience is magnificent. The atmosphere is great, the service is wonderful and the coffee is absolutely stunning. Multiple choices of espresso based drinks with various beans/blends along with pour over for the more discerning coffee drinker.
I genuinely don’t think there’s a better coffee within 30 miles.
Hair cut: Like the coffee, the attention to detail is clear here. Sure it costs more than other barbers, but the service and experience is second to none - and you get a complimentary coffee.
This is my go to barber and coffee house in the Dorchester area.
