I used to live in Macclesfield and the last Sunday of every month is Treacle Market day. It is such a brilliant market full of fresh produce and artisan gifts. It is brilliantly curated and you can get very reasonably priced locally made gifts and food here. It lights up the town and is the place to be to meet other locals for a natter, breakfast or lunch. It does get busy so if you want a quieter experience get there early.
The market brings many new visitors to Macclesfield and it is wonderful to see the town so animated. As well as fresh food, funky gifts, plants, and locally made artwork there is also entertainment with brilliant local artists performing throughout the day. Each month has a different theme so that you can enjoy the market in a different way at different times of the year. Local charities and community organisations often have a stall up in St Michael's church yard to provide local information and opportunities for local residents and the market is DOG FRIENDLY. It is so wonderful to see this with families bringing in their four-legged friends to enjoy the day. Macclesfield is a brilliant place to live and work and Treacle Market makes it extra special and unique. Definitely one of the best markets in the North-West in a...
Read moreIt's good and it's brilliant bringing people, activity, trade and money to what is otherwise an ordinary high street suffering in the same way as most other high streets. There's a reasonable variety of stalls but not a lot of change from month to month which means I wouldn't want to go more than every other month, if that. I can always find something different and tasty for lunch - a very good chicken, chorizo paella today - but it is a little on the dear side. The best stalls for me are the pies (Great Northern is my choice but the others are good), cheese stalls (my favourite is Mrs Bourne's Cheshire cheeses but don't ignore the others) and the bread stalls. Good selection at Flour Salt and Water and if they've run out at the old van next to the church yard, your can go to the shop opposite the Town Hall. Doesn't quite get 5 stars because things are a bit dear. But certainly a good thing to do on the last Sunday...
Read moreIts ok wouldn't say its ALL TREACLE bit more bad taste didn't buy anything as it's well over priced vintage (second hand stuff) the food stalls (not all but most) none of them wearing hats or hair nets no food covers one stall had at least 5 cakes that a blue bottle taste tested before you bought NOT FOR ME THANKS just cause you call yourselves artisan or vegan doesn't make you exempt from the food standards trust me I worked in the industry for 25 years I know the red tape but standards are for a reason. Also, a lot of the stalls showed cash only signs which is fine great even except when you don't take cash 🤦 at least give a choice. Overall a bit boring and icky with the open-air foodie bits. Also, disabled people struggle and people don't move. Toilet facilities are...
