Would like to give this a better review, but considering the overall price and the fact we were asked by the restaurant to choose from the menu ten days before we actually visited, I simply cannot give this any more than three stars.
I believe that one of the kitchen staff did not turn up on the night we visited, so they were short staffed, with just one young lad serving the whole restaurant and Chef Eric helping at times. We were not asked if we would like any drinks on our arrival and after waiting at our tables for over ten minutes, we politely asked the waiter if we could be served some drinks who then took our orders, however another ten minutes went by and none of us had received our drinks. By now our starters had arrived, and the food was nice, and perfectly pleasant, but nothing more than that sadly. I had ordered six snails as a starter and unfortunately two of the snail shells were completely empty. For the price paid, this really should have been spotted by the chef. Our drinks finally arrived after everybody had finished their starters. The main meals we ordered were decent and the crab I ordered was cooked very well. However we had to ask the overworked and clearly inexperienced waiter if we could order another drink two more times, and still nothing had arrived. By now after being in the restaurant for over 90 minutes we just gave up. Two hours after originally arriving, Chef Eric came over to our table and then chatted to us about some of the desserts and wines on offer, and for the first time in the evening, it actually felt like we were valued or made welcome, and considering our table of six spent nearly £350, I dont think this is good enough personally, not that it should matter how much you have spent.
I think the food here is good, and I appreciate that every business has its bad days, but the whole experience was a bit of an anti climax, it felt unprofessional, the front of house was poorly run and the general ambience of the restaurant suffered because of this. I also overheard Chef Eric get into a dispute outside with a group of customers when he asked them their opinions on their experience, and they were not particularly satisfied either. If you pay higher end prices in a restaurant you expect quality food, drink, service and atmosphere. Unfortunately, the only thing that resembled any quality that night was the food. I would try here again to see if it was just a bad night for them, but I have eaten at many other similar priced restaurants over the years and the vast majority have...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I visited this restaurant for her 19th birthday, we aren’t very familiar with Weymouth however saw this restaurant was incredibly well rated on trip advisor so decided to take book a table! Upon our arrival we were the first seated, but not for long! All of the floor staff were friendly and attentive, Kirsty was very welcoming and took our drinks order promptly, the house white wine was really lovely and very reasonably priced for the taste I thought! Chef Eric then came over and explained the specials for the night, although we had pre ordered and were happy with our choices it was nice to have the option! Before our starters arrived we were given two glasses of bubbly as a gesture for the birthday girl and chef even sang happy birthday in French which we both agreed was very sweet and really made us feel special! I ordered the carrot and butternut squash veloute which was fantastic, perfectly seasoned and salted to contrast the natural sweetness of the ingredients, topped with a perfectly poached egg! My girlfriend had the terrine which she really enjoyed, the mushroom ketchup was a fantastic addition to the terrine! We then both enjoyed the dressed crab with fries for our main course, it was garnished with two different caviars which were rich and complimented the fresh crab perfectly, it came with two huge portions of home made fries and tomato salad which we both agreed was really tasty and brought the dish together fantastically! Overall it was a really special experience, very personal and friendly service, delicious food served in a quaint restaurant with fantastic atmosphere, we will be recommending and we...
Read moreWe were in Weymouth! It was the last evening of October 2023! It was raining and blowing a hoolie! That is until we entered ‘Les Enfants Terribles’! We were met by Chef Eric and immediately transported to a sultry romantic evening somewhere in France! It was warm and inviting, with the lighting, the music and the aroma of French cooking! We were shown to our table by Kieran our brilliant waiter for the evening, where we ordered a beautiful bottle of Merlot. My partner chose the seafood soup from the 3 course set menu starters and I opted for the grilled squid on a bed of chickpeas! Both starters were cooked to perfection and delicious. Another glass of Merlot and on to the main courses! My partner choosing the Portland crab with tomato salad and fries which she adored! My choice was Chef Eric’s signature dish of whole Seabass fillets with leeks, carrots Fennel and white wine, cooked and served in foil, which was the finest fish dish I have ever eaten! Desserts were chocolate cheesecake and a calvados based liqueur coffee to finish off a fantastic experience, with the stars of the show being the Seabass and Grilled squid! Chef Eric was on hand to answer our questions regarding his food and showed genuine interest in us! Kieran, our waiter, being so attentive and professional made our dining experience a joy! Thank you again Chef Eric...
