What has happened to the e-bike cafe? This cafe used to be the very essence of customer centric service with smiley welcoming staff and great food. I can't believe the change in attitude and the food on offer. Menus weren't even handed to us when we arrived, it's very much a look after yourself type of service now. I was very excited about the promise of FLUFFY pancakes for breakfast and my expectation was even higher given the price at £9.95! What actually arrived was a stack of shop bought, dry, lukewarm scotch pancakes ;( which you can pick up in Asda for 48p. (They have previously admitted to buying fruit sour dough that they used to serve from Asda). I asked for the pancakes to be warmed up and maybe even put on the sandwich grill to make them a little better. They were clearly just put pack in the microwave. When they were delivered to the table there was no apology they were dismissively put on the table. We sat for a while and watched the general lack of customer service to others, the waitress was stood by the menu stack but couldn't be bothered about handing these out to a table of 4 people who arrived. It's such a shame, this is a beautiful spot and it used to be packed out, buzzing and guaranteed good food. There has clearly been a change of staff who don't have the same grasp on customer service. The coffee was the only...
Read moreHaving regularly dined in a similar cycle café (Velo Domestique in Southbourne, Bournemouth), I had high hopes for here. The old Deheers building and location on the harbour is incredible, and the industrial interior decor is cool.
Unfortunately, the same can't be said of the food. Noticed someone in the kitchen opening a packet of Tesco croissants on our arrival, so steered clear of the pastries and decided to go for the "fluffy pancakes". Although well presented, these were evidently also out of a packet from the nearest supermarket, and topped with some defrosted summer fruit. Not the sort of fresh, quality product you would expect for £7.50 per portion. The flat white was certainly very flat and dull too, with too much milk and not enough body to the coffee.
All-in-all, not very impressive, and certainly not what we were hoping for to fuel us up for the final stretch of our 9-week South West Coast Path hiking trip. Definitely a case of style...
Read moreLast month on our mini vacation we found this cafe by walking around. It looked busy even on that Thursday morning and we didn't want to miss the opportunity to try. Properly run business where a customer feels like a valued customer. The breakfast time was over but I still asked if they could do the porridge bowl. And they made it for me! Beautifully looking and very delicious food was that! We also tried the vegan chocolate cake and we liked it so much that we bought more for take away.
The staff had an excellent attitude towards their job & customers and they were very hardworking.
They have colouring books for grown ups and kids as well if you prefer to be creative while having a coffee/ waiting for your food.
We left satisfied and happy. Glad we popped in and I can only recommend this cafe.
P.s. dog friendly place. We regretted not to bring our Labrador out as he would have enjoyed...
