Me and my friends went here for brunch on Sunday morning when everywhere else in this area was packed while Gassy’s was empty… the reason for this later made sense to us 😅

Tried to order through the app initially and I wouldn’t need to leave this review if I’d been able to, but for some reason there’s no breakfast/brunch on there so I couldn’t. I wasn’t really hungry and the other brunch options are very limited and didn’t appeal to me so I just wanted a few of the add on options, like hash browns and an egg, so I asked the man at the bar if I could order this and he told me I couldn’t. Disappointed by this, I ordered a breakfast butty instead. When our food arrived, I found out one of my friends had done almost exactly what I wanted to do and had actually been allowed. I asked the bar man why this was and apparently because of the way I’d worded my request, he’d misunderstood what I wanted to do, but hadn’t asked any further questions to clarify or try to get me what I wanted. After having to go back and forth with him for a while in a really awkward and what I felt was a rude encounter that I haven’t had to have with someone in hospitality, he eventually apologised in what felt like a really insincere way.

I ended up paying £6 for a bacon, egg and cheese (I don’t know if the cheese was from a tube or just entirely melted, but it was orange and tasted really cheap and fake) made with pre-sliced white mass manufactured bread… If I’m going to pay £6 for a breakfast sandwich, I’d at least want it to be made with nice bread like some sourdough or a nice bun. Also one of my friends ended up having cheese in her butty that she hadn’t expected because it wasn’t listed on the menu and she is...

I was probably being a bit blasé in how I wrote my review. Gassy's is 5 star for what it is: A bar that caters for students and a casual/easy drinking experience. The proximity to the student's union is perfect for a meeting point before a gig and the place opens up into a fun night out if you wanted to have more of a party vibe!

I wouldn't say that you would need to do much atall to make it 5 star. It just wasn't 5 star for me as an overall entity. For what you guys are trying to accomplish, you nailed it. It just isn't a place that I would come to for a quiet drink to catch up with my work or to have a daytime coffee. I would come here to meet friends, have lots of drinks, and if I was a student again; have a party! I'm glad you guys are still going - keep doing what...

One of the worst student venues in Cardiff. The drinks can be reasonably priced but the place is an absolute mess. The men's urinal trough is constantly over flowing with 100s of peoples urine because it keeps getting blocked. Certain staff can be rude and unaccommodating to peoples needs. Floors are disgusting and not regularly cleaned so you're either sticking to the floor or slipping on it. Music choice is below average if they even decide to turn it on. Make the 10 minute journey in to Cardiff centre and you will find many better establishments. If you end up here you're more than likely scraping the bottom...
