We visited Riddle Rooms in June 2023 and completed the Time Agent room, which was themed to 1989, a saloon bar in the wild west. Upon arrival we had to fill out a disclaimer before being offered costumes/props (ponchos, waistcoats, Stetsons; it was hot so we each donned a Stetson) ahead of a team photo. There was a bit of a wait after arriving; however, we also had to practice opening one of their dial combination padlocks. This was the only disappointment of the day: these were not standard combination padlocks (where you would simply turn clockwise and anticlockwise sequentially to each number), they were overly fiddly, requiring 3 full turns before starting to solve and then requiring the 1st number of the combination to be entered twice... This meant that in the room itself, we burned a fair amount of time simply solving the combination locks, even when we had the correct code. Anyway, we were very impressed with the theme of the room and having done a few escape rooms before, we enjoyed some particularly novel aspects in the puzzles. Our host, Emily, was fantastic - she kept us on track, was available via an intercom throughout, but (most importantly) was really enthusiastic and played the part well when setting us up for the game! The logic of the room was challenging but manageable. We had a great time and the only downsides were one prop being faulty (we should have released a key but the mechanism didn't work, so Emily had to physically bring it in) and the pesky combination padlocks. When all escape rooms in Glasgow are comparable in price and availability, it was lovely to find a more unique theme. Overall, I would definitely recommend Riddle...
Read moreDid ‘Mansion’ - a large scale escape room for 8-18 people. The way it works is you divide into four sub teams to solve puzzles in parallel then come together to solve the final puzzles. I wasn’t so keen on the separating out aspect as it feels like you are missing out. Some of the puzzles are quite fun and interesting but it is not the most well designed escape room - the puzzles don’t flow well from one to the next, aren’t easily identifiable as to which team they belong to, don’t have a clear chain from puzzle to puzzle - and the some of the puzzles are not workable out, you just have to get lucky in your lateral thinking. First escape room I’ve seen where they have two helpers in the room with you - and they are absolutely essential and AJ and Rose did a great job. But that shouldn’t be necessary and it absolutely was because some of the clues are just so obscure. Overall not the best escape room I’ve been to as there was too much randomness / obscurity / relying on chance - but it...
Read moreMy daughter and seven of her friends completed the Spy Teens escape room yesterday. They had a moderator in the room with them, Stuart, and all of them had an amazing time!
A few of them had taken part in an escape room before but for the majority, this was their first time.
Stuart offered clues as necessary without revealing exactly what they were looking for, and always kept in character e.g. saying something along the lines of “I was speaking to Mike and he always used big words”
There were lots of fun solutions to find to work towards escaping. I was able to watch what all the kids were up to from the comfort of the waiting room via an iPad and got to hear all about it in detail afterwards.
I’d highly recommend Spy Teens for larger...
