In terms of food, I would give the restaurant 5 stars. My dinner was cooked to perfection, the food was incredibly tasty, however this was not the same for every guest at my table. The customer service we experienced also, was below par. Hence such a low scoring. From the moment we arrived, some of our guests were put on edge by the level of service from the staff.
I have worked in both the retail and leisure industries at Christmas time, so I have every sympathy for staff at this time of year. Things are busy, people are often overworked and customers can sometimes demand the impossible - expecting high levels of attentiveness at a time when you are booked to full capacity. However, when I arrived to greet a member of my party, she was already in distress having been chastised for the lateness of other people in our group - myself included. This was due to traffic problems in the city centre and had we been pulled up ourselves, we would have explained and apologised. Instead, the person who arrived on time was made to feel uncomfortable which wasn't the best start.
We forgot about this as we enjoyed our food, chalking it up to being busy and staff needing to move groups through the restaurant quickly to deal with demand. However, as we enjoyed our main meals, one member of our party found a cooked piece of plastic in her plate of pasta. Having also worked in similar industries, she was reluctant to complain, yet we insisted on it. The member of staff that approached our table seemed very uninterested and the apology was pretty half hearted. Her plate was taken away and as she was nearly finished, she decided not to ask for any more food. I have seen customers create bigger fusses over smaller issues. While it is understandable that accidents happen, it would have felt more sincere if a proper apology was offered.
We then had quite a wait for one member of our party who had ordered a dessert. When we inquired about it, we were made to feel like a growing nuisance to staff. When our bill arrived, we noticed it seemed like a higher price than we had calculated. A closer inspection showed that another table's items had been added to ours. This was the final straw for us and we complained. The bill was rectified and as a gesture of goodwill for the plastic in the food, we were given one of our glasses of wine for free. This just seemed like a poor after-thought. At this point, rather than anything been given for free, just a sincere apology would have satisfied us. I feel guilty writing a poor review on just one visit to a place at such a busy time, yet I highly doubt I would return here based on this experience.
Food was lovely but service was...
Read moreWe arrived this afternoon for our pre-booked table (Christmas Day 2024) for a limited set menu meal costing over fifty pounds per person. ( Extra £2 for adding chicken to a basic pasta meal was an option)
The table we were shown to was set for two, it also was completely bare It resembled a McDonalds or KFC rather than a city centre restaurant. This was disappointing given that it was Christmas Day. I did notice a table close to ours which had Christmas Crackers however , I'm unsure if the customers had supplied their own. Our table had nothing on it apart from the cutlery and a white cheap paper napkin.
My starter was basic a pate with three oat cakes and a salad consisting of lettuce, shredded carrot and red cabbage. It was bland and uneventful resembling more what's you'd expect from a greasy spoon cafe. The mozzarella sticks looked more appetizing and my wife enjoyed them.
I wasn't overly annomored by the female waitress who appeared uninterested and also gave the vibes that she would have preferred to be anywhere else other than in the restaurant today.
The rest of the two courses were edible, however, it was probably the least enjoyable Italian (?) food I've eaten since I visited Turkey a few years back and ate in Turkish Italian. Chinese , Indian Curry House. The Tiramisu sponge hadn't been soaked in the Masala wine long enough and the sponge biscuits were still hard in places. I don't think it was due to it being frozen. However, I have woken this morning with an upset stomach on Boxing Day . So thank you to the chef for that.
I was presented with my bill which included a £17 plus service charge . I have to admit normally if the service was decent / average I'd have no issue paying 10% service charge and would have given a few extra pounds since, it was Christmas.
However , I felt let down by the table , the quality of the food , the female waitress and especially her reaction to me asking for the removal of the service charge , snatching the bill out my hand before returning with the amended bill..Her attitude stank throughout our visit.
I left the restaurant and will not be returning. It was a very disappointing experience and a let down on Christmas Day. The venue is lovely , the male staff were nice enough and attentive however , I've learned you only get what you pay for and a £50 plus per head meal isn't going to be anything other than bang average and bland.
My advice is avoid this restaurant, or at least during the cash grab period of Christmas. Maybe had the female waitress with the attitude not been working today or serving my table. Maybe, the experience may have been slightly...
Read moreFound this gem on Tiktok yesterday - instantly knew we had to come and try. What better excuse than using my husbands birthday the perfect opportunity to travel through from Edinburgh.
From the anticipation getting off the train full of excitement ready for a great evening full of great food and drink and an almighty fantastic atmosphere we were not dissapointed.
From the second we walked in the door, it was just a cemented reminder of Turkey. With the Efes sign lighting your way up the slow revealing spiral staircase, to be met with absolute brilliant services and the biggest smile on every member of staffs face, as if your the very first customer ever through the door.
Sat down in a spacious window booth with a table that is fit for a banquette, and a banquette we had.
Tapas you say? Oh the menu is to die for choices are so well suited from kids menus to the steak lovers! Which was cooked to perfection) to those of you who love a bit of traditional Turkish food, to a twist of Scottish, you just can't ask for anything better.
These guys strive to give you the best food what ever your taste, what ever "taste memory" you want to unlock they will succeed.
