I did this tour a few years ago with friends and had a good experience, so whilst on a trip to York, so I decided to take the family and I wish I had not.
The tour was called a "Ghost Trail" and I think this should be renamed a tour of York to look at the black cats that have been nailed to the outside of some old buildings.
The organizers obviously use a number of different presenters for this tour, as this person was completely different to the previous performer.
At 1930 he wafted into the awaiting crowd with the presences of an official in a suburban library, and the evening went down hill from there. We should have walked away then and so I recommend you do the same.
This presenter took you to three interesting sites where he started the story in the middle of the tale, mumbled on almost incoherently without appearing to draw breath, then "complete" it without coming to the end.
We passed a couple of other evening tours with customers engaged, smiling and content which I viewed with envious eyes. This "actor" provided us with a few semi rehearsed poor "dad" jokes which made some attendees smile. He did make sure we all stayed on the pavement to avoid being run over by flying Uber eats deliver drivers on bikes, for which I thank him; but that is where the gratitude ends.
On this tour there were some non-native English speakers so I wondered what they made of it all? They may have got the reference to Penny Lane and Beatles? Where the developers had bonded some old coins into a street sign? How this has found its way onto a "Ghost Trail remains a mystery.
So to conclude, this is a waste of time and money! So if you attend this event and a tall man with a felt hat and glasses arrives to present this tour, go around the corner to McDonalds and have a coffee; saving yourself time and money and will probably see more entertainment than this presenter gives.

Read moreOne of the most unnecessary ghost tours I did. To be fair, they all seems the same, so at least this seems to be the least expensive one. The guide was funny and seemed more flaunt than the rest groups I noticed. I didn’t always understood the accent and small quips he made, but maybe part of the charm. No historical facts or stories (the only one that had been easy to find on google wasn’t accurate) other stops could have been given more info on rather than rushing to no end. The group should be limited they all seems to be enormous and this is out of season tour. All in all, I did found stuff that I wouldn’t randomly google by the tour. I feel my time and money could be met with better product regarding the vikings story, Clifford tower, civil war and Charles 1 as it seems to be an important city at that era. To sum up, If you do this tour, I think it is the best option for the price paid and endearing presentation. If you having doubts, don’t do it. Another nice thing is the wonder of being able to pay with...
Read moreWe had the best time on Greg's trail. I'd wanted to do a ghost walk for ages- my husband wasn't as keen but I managed to twist his arm and he came away saying that it was one of the best things we'd done on honeymoon.
Greg greeted us with a fist bump and took us over the the minster where he began his ghostly tales. Greg's storytelling is so endearing- a perfect mix of spooky stories and humour which we loved. We saw parts of York we'd never have visited ourselves, and learned fascinating and often gory facts about the city. £5 per person was an absolute steal and it was pleasing to see such a large group on a weekday....
