My spouse and I visited on a friendโs recommendation, and my cider and his beer were tasty. This was post dinner, and they werenโt very busy. I have a medical condition that requires me to elevate my leg after strenuous activity, which a day in York definitely qualified. We sat in a corner, and there was no other table with customers on my side. There was a stool that I put under my knee (with accompanying thigh to knee brace worn on the outside of my clothing). No part of my shoes were on the stool. Unfortunately, my spouse decided that his 70- yr.- old+ legs were tired, and he put his feet up on the other side on another stool, also with no shoes making contact. After we were halfway through our drinks, the bartender came over to our table and told us to put our feet off the furniture. We apologized about my husbandโs, about which I agree that he shouldnโt have done. However, it seems to me that accommodation should have been made for my medical condition. Iโm hoping that the bartender will be more empathetic in the future, (maybe karma in a few years) although we wonโt...

You're not aloud to taste the slightly more expensive beers on the left before you buy. I can understand this policy to a degree but it would be nice if allowances were made for people that obviously aren't there to take the p**s.
No Wi Fi, again not a crime but a bit annoying (I really needed it for something).
No phone charging behind the bar. Just another small, annoying thing which, taking into account the premium pricing and the two other refusals, doesn't make for an amazing experience.
Three staff on, one looked quite new and seemed friendly. One of the three (an eccentric looking gent) very visibley didn't want to be there and although not overtly rude, was really short with me, and others whilst I was there.
These things let it down as the beer is excellent (I'm always happy to pay more for a nice spot and good beer) and it's a really nice pub inside.
Anyway on that basis, I will never be going again, or recommend...

It has a chilled vibe and attracts a variety of people, feels inclusive and welcoming of all. The bar has down-to-earth yet imaginative decor. Because it's just out of the main hustle and bustle of the city centre, it's often less busy than other bars. That's not to say you'll find a seat every time. You might have to stand a while and keep an eye out for a table to become vacant. There are no TVs so no mobs of football fans and it's not really the type of place for hen parties or stag do's (which are becoming an increasing problem York and Leeds when all you want to do is enjoy a drink in a place with a bit of lively atmosphere). It's also a comfortable place for individuals to go for a drink and get talking to others. I've seen several people grab a pint on their own and get...
