Having worked here for 1 year I can be accused of bias - and it is up to you if you believe me when I say I am reviewing neutrally. Firstly I am not a vegetarian, but I've eaten thousands of veggie dishes over the years, like most people, mainly because it's just food, people. Just because it lacks meat it doesn't make it an anomaly, nor inferior.
We were given a meal per shift so I can claim to have eaten most of the dishes on the menu, and all of them were excellent, yummy quality. (I avoided anything auberginey but that's because I don't like aubergines - but when mentioning this to customers who did have it, I was always admonished for being so closed off to experimenting :) )
The cheese souffle starter is amazing - much to my chagrin, I only tried this dish quite close to my leaving date, and am a bit gutted I didn't have one sooner. The Moroccan M'Hancha was my favourite main, on an almost even par with the Butternut Squash pancakes. But do bear in mind the menu changes frequently.
As it was my job to take the food to people (known as a "food runner") and on occasion clear those plates, I cannot quantify the amount of times people's faces lit up with anticipation or delight when asked if they enjoyed their meal.
I am leaving this review mainly to counter one inaccuracy from another reviewer that may put people off - they claimed that 20% service charge was added to their bill automatically, and I want to stress that this is most definitely NOT the case: except on NYE, and this is mentioned at the time of booking this special event (it is a set 5 course menu, different to anything served at any other time of year, contrary to another reviewer's claim), or when in a group of 10 or more, and then only 10% is added to the bill.
HOWEVER in both cases the service charge is ALWAYS optional, and you can decline to pay it. I know this can make some people feel awkward, but remember it's not our fault if you lack the confidence to say anything (and also remember, you will have been told this when booking, anyway, so plenty of time to rehearse your refusal tone).
I can say this with utmost authority, having printed so many: all bills are printed without extras, just the items you consumed or drank. All tables are presented with their bills and then we leave you alone for a bit, giving a few minutes to look through - we do not hover or linger.
When we return to take payment, you are then given the opportunity to either add a tip via the card machine, or refuse any change / leave a cash tip at your discretion. Total tips at the end of the night are then divided equally between all staff working that night, from the manager to the pot washer.
Tips are of course always gratefully received but are never guaranteed; IF ONLY 20% were automatically added. I...
Read moreMy dining companion was vegan and local, so she chose this, having eaten here several times before. I would usually totally avoid a vegetarian restaurant as I’ve never really enjoyed anything I’ve had… but that was before this!! OMG!! The main course - stuffed mushrooms - was delicious! I had the pickled beetroot salad for started. Loved. Then the main…. First off, the beef mushrooms were enormous! We both had the same main (she had the vegan option though) and really took our time savouring every bite… it was a bit of a battle to finish it all. I can’t honestly tell you what was on the plate because I had glossed over the menu just choosing what I thought would be ‘least offensive’ (remember, I don’t usually like vegetarian restaurants!). It was so delicious that we couldn’t bear to leave any! If I could give a meal a standing ovation… this would be it!! I know I usually only write reviews when I’ve had a stand-out meal (I hardly bother to write about the average/bad ones unless they truly offend me!), so I’m usually singing their praises… but the fact that this was a wholly vegetarian restaurant which I was dreading, is what made this meal all the more special! DELICIOUS! From now on, whenever I come to the Lake District, this restaurant will already have been booked for a revisit! The service was warm and lovely. The decor is lovely… simple, warm and gives an air of hushed decadence. Hard to pull off but they did it. We were the last diners… as we had lingered over every delicious course. I had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert - nice! My friend had the gooseberry & ginger crumble - it was tart & delish! We paid £41 each (no alcohol) … very simple pricing of their menu and to me, very reasonable for what they are...
Read moreA trip to the Lakes always involves a trip to our favourite vegan friendly restaurant Fellinis, my husband and I love it and we have visited many times.
The food never fails to impress, from its presentation, creativity, flavours and scrumptiousness as can be seen from my photos and plenty vegan options for us both too.
On this visit we had sweet potato & coconut soup and pear, artichoke and vegan cheese crostini to start and they were perfect to kick off our dinner. Mains were aubergine cannelloni with quinoa and romesco sauce, Cajun cauliflower steak with avocado sauce and a side salad, once more gorgeous food and flavours. We shared an apple and plum crumble to finish with two decaf coffees.
Service at front of house was excellent with a special mention for Alex, he is such a friendly guy, knows his regular customers, always has a chat and looks after you so well.
We will be back in the Lakes at Christmas and have already booked our table for the 22nd as a trip to the Lakes would not be the same without dinner at Fellinis.
If you want a fabulous meal in the Lakes whether you are vegan, vegetarian or meat eater, you will not be disappointed.
Went for dinner on our recent visit to Ambleside August 2025 and had an amazing meal. We had Waldorf salad, quinoa and herb stuffed courgette flower, stuffed Portobello mushrooms with Boulangere potato and roast cauliflower with Romesco sauce with celeriac puree and toasted almonds. Look after at front of house by the lovely Andrea who always...
