Wonderful trip down memory lane.Four of us all around 70 arrived at the beautiful building on the University of Leeds Campus and we started at 1884 when the story of M and S began.Between us we were all wearing an M and S item of clothing from underwear to a coat and jumper! We loved looking at the old catalogue archives whilst admiring the displays and interactive alcoves where you could listen to former employees experiences of working for M and S where they had hairdressing,dental sevices, discounted meals and the odd holiday....those were the days!Didn't know that M and S were the first store to introduce sell by dates or that they were the first to introduce no smoking in their stores. This was a lovely couple of hours where all sorts of activities were taking place in little side rooms. We left with a mixture of joy and sadness wondering where present day M and S had lost its way from such a prestigious brand with a business model envied by all to store closures and falling sales. There is a tiny cinema playing old advertisement of M&S of different decades. There is a corner for old M&S clothes you can try on and take photo with the special backdrops. There are magazines fixed along with the collection exhibited. It is cool. And there are some gifts exclusive to M&S archive that you can buy near the reception.
As a Hongkonger, it is so nice to visit the achieve because there are also M&S in Hong Kong. I suggest a little collection for the M&S history in other parts of the world. Yes, the shirt I was on when I took the flight to UK is M&S.😭 So many...
Read moreWhat a lovely surprise for the whole family. Very well hidden on the Leeds University Campus, you really need to know it's there. Free entrance for this small but full of informations and displays museum. I was very impressed by the accessibility for special needs visitors. Sensory backpack available with fidgety toy, heardefenders, and much more. Free refreshments room. Lots to do and see with many interactive corners for adults and children. Loved the dress up section with authentic M&S vintage clothing. We will go back and tell family and friends of this...
