Went here to get a drink with friends, I don't drink alcohol and requested an alcohol free old mout.
I was denied service by a man with curly hair because of my lack of ID as "it still had alcohol in it". I offered to show my student ID but they said they wanted passport or driver's license.
Regardless place is extortionate unless you go on certain days. Wouldn't reccomend
Edit: apparently the manager watches these reviews like a hawk because not even like 30 mins after posting the review bar staff approached me and argued with me about the review.
Still extortionate. Like 12 pound for a cocktail unless you go on a Thursday where it's 2 for 1
On the assertion that you need to id for old mout alcohol free, that is incorrect. I work at a bar myself and the law clearly says "The Licensing Act 2003 prohibits the sale of alcohol to under 18s. It also prohibits the consumption of alcohol by under 18s in licensed premises, with the exception that 16 or 17 year olds accompanied by an adult can drink (but not buy) beer, wine or cider with a meal. Alcohol is defined within the Licensing Act as a product with an alcoholic strength above 0.5% ABV. This means that an alcohol substitute drink up to 0.5% ABV can be legally sold to children." This is from "Updating labelling guidance for no and low-alcohol alternatives: consultation" on the .gov website. The old mout website clearly says that their alcohol frees are around 0.05 abv in their FAQ section, they can even advertise it as 0% which is in display on the bottle.
Though the government says this is current guidance, they also say venues have their own right to restrict if they wish, just as I have to...
Read moreFood was good, halloumi fries were a little bland as they came with nothing which was weird because I've never been anywhere and got just them on their own.
Problem came when I ordered a diet coke, it tasted very thin and almost nothing at the end of the sip. Not a problem, I've had it happen before when the syrup is coming to the end, usually just a chat with the bar staff any other pub I've been to. The bartender argued with me saying he'd just given it five minutes and it was fine. I argued it wasn't, I've had diet coke from pubs for years - I know what it's supposed to taste like.
He went off to get a taster cup and filled it with diet coke and said it tasted fine. I share the same cup with him and agreed, THAT cup tasted fine and expected but my glass did not. We seemed to be at a standstill and I asked if he'd just replace my glass with another pour. He refused saying I needed to buy another one? I didn't get what I paid for, I'm not buying another.
Shame. My group of eight all bought a few rounds and food but they couldn't replace my few quid pint of diet coke. Horrible customer service - it's...
Read moreI attended the quiz expecting an enjoyable evening; however, the experience was disappointing. The quiz master made a number of sexist jokes that left my table feeling uncomfortable.
In addition, when my group declined the offer of a “free shot” as none of us were drinking, the quiz master publicly challenged us over the microphone in front of the entire pub. This was embarrassing and unnecessary. In the future, it would be far more inclusive to offer a non-alcoholic alternative.
When I raised these concerns with the bar staff, they were polite and reassuring, and I was informed that similar complaints had been made before. I appreciate that the staff were not at fault, as the quiz master was externally contracted, but the situation reflects poorly on the event overall.
As things stand, I would not be inclined to attend...
