Drove through Llanberis loads of times whilst in Snowdonia but never been to this park before. Enough here for a interesting & free day out. Started off parking at the first car park opposite the path for Dolbardarn Castle. Dolbardarn Castle is worth the short & steep walk up imo for a quick photo op. You cannot go up the tower. Then it was on to the National Slate Centre around the corner. The buildings are worth a quick perusal & the highlight is undoubtedly watching the short informative film followed by a demonstration of slate splitting. The worker (Jonjo?) finished off by making a shape which you can buy in the gift shop - won’t tell you what it is, it’ll spoil the surprise! Then it was a short path uphill to the viewpoint over the bottom of Vivian Quarry. Great pic! The bottom water level path is closed I believe due to recent rockfall. Then it was along the same path heading slightly uphill again heading north to the Quarry Hospital. A brief interesting walkthrough here. Then back down the steps and across the little bridge along the path along the eastern shore of Llyn Padarn back to the Slate Museum car park. Then we drove the 5 miles or so round the lake over to Dinorwig & along the one track road (Lon Garret) where we were dropped off at the end for the short uphill walk to the top of Dinorwig Quarry. The Quarry is amazing, an otherworldly landscape & very photogenic. You could spend hours or even days exploring here. As it was, we meandered down the hill, past the huge piles of discarded Slate for a couple of miles of winding paths & past the Britannia Barracks back down to Pedarn Park to be picked up again at the Slate Museum Car Park. A great day out! If you want even more there is the Llanberis Lake...

It’s a perfect evening picnic spot for the family. Go...
Read moreThe circular walks weren't well signposted. There was a map on a hut near car park entrance, and most of the walks start from the incline near the train station. With your back to the ticket office, the incline is facing you - see photos.
There is also a full circular walk...
