Brought to this because a week ago today I had this happen, I thought it would be handled with how serious it was but 0 correspondence from any of my emails I was ASKED to send.
I’ll drop my email to the manager below as it will give you a good insight to what happened and how disgusting it is, I have now taken matters into my own hands which I believe will resolve this how I’d like it to be 🤌🏻
I am writing to follow up on our previous conversation yesterday regarding the incident that occurred on 14/08/2025 at the café, which I found deeply troubling.
As you are aware, during that visit, I was subjected to both misgendering and inappropriate behaviour from one of your staff members. While I appreciated the opportunity to discuss this matter in person with you and the staff member in the office, I am still deeply hurt and effected by the experience and feel that further clarification is necessary regarding the actions taken to address this issue.
To recap: The staff member in question, upon interacting with me, made the incorrect assumption that I was male to her colleagues in a vile way and, in Welsh, stated “this is a man have you heard its voice “ Although she may have thought I did not understand Welsh, I am fluent in the language, and her comment was both inappropriate, incorrect, offensive and totally unacceptable. Afterward, she proceeded to converse with other colleagues about me in a manner that made me feel objectified and uncomfortable. Baring in mind this conversation was infront of me before I’d even completed my order with the young lad on the till, how utterly disgusting? I spent near £50 on my day under that roof between the train then café purchases only to be met with behavior that was not only disrespectful but also distressing.
As I mentioned in our conversation, I do not believe this behavior is acceptable in any setting, especially not in a customer service context. The staff member’s actions, from the misgendering to the public discussion, created a hostile environment and undermined my dignity as a customer.
I would like to know the specific actions that have been taken to address this issue, both in terms of any disciplinary measures and steps to prevent similar incidents in the future. It is important to me to understand how this matter is being handled, particularly given the legal protections afforded to individuals under the Equality Act 2010, which prohibits discrimination and harassment based on gender identity, including misgendering and the creation of hostile environments.
I must also emphasise how this situation could be perceived as homophobic or discriminatory, as the staff member’s assumptions about my gender and subsequent treatment seemed rooted in a lack of understanding or outright disregard for my identity. If I had been a member of the LGBTQ+ community, these comments would not only be offensive but could also be construed as discriminatory which again is an offence. Homophobia or any form of discrimination based on gender identity is unacceptable, and I feel that the staff member’s behavior crossed into this territory.
I sincerely hope that appropriate measures have been taken to ensure that this kind of behavior does not occur again, and I would appreciate your confirmation on the outcome. I am awaiting your response to determine whether I am satisfied with how the situation has been addressed and resolved.
Thank you for your attention to this serious matter. I look forward to hearing from you soon and I’d like to again thank you for how you handled...
Read moreI have a small fascination about History and mix that with liking Steam railways of both standard size and miniature ones, this place gives it all! (Apart from standard size railway of course haha) Car park is decent size but If guess during summer it probably fills up well. Was a very nice 35 year old (1990) VW Scirocco parked there on the day we visited. Price wise it's fairly good for what you get, also it's great if you've maybe got only a morning to use. You can use the railway all day on the same ticket and go back and forth along the route. The old slate mine is obviously what this place used to be and the railway originally carried slate back from the mine. But now the very nice carriages that you sit in are comfortable and fairly roomy. It was quite busy when we went. The little Steam Engine has a lot of guts, maybe small but quite a bit of torque as it would have pulled some weight in the past. The line takes you around the side of the lake, with just 4 stops. If you get on at the second stop where you get your ticket from, the train back tracks to the first stop to pick people up at the first platform. Then back to the second platform. It then steams it's way around the edge of the lake, with all the smells you'd expect, wood burning and coal dust which will get in your eyes occasionally when the train is stationary. * Top tip, don't rub your eyes, it'll only get the dust into your eye more. Moisten your eye with a handkerchief, or a tissue and wipe your eye that way, a dry finger will make it worse.* You can see mountains from the train journey, it's very pretty indeed. Along the route is a platform where you can get off and have a picnic. The train goes up and down the line all day so you'd have time to eat before the train comes back. Each journey typically lasts around an hour from initial boarding to getting off. If you do get off at the platform towards the end of the line, don't wander to far as the train only sits for 5 minutes before carrying on it's journey, if you miss it, you'll have to wait for it coming back. The shop is as expected, had the usual trinkets and pieces to buy for memories, the prices aren't megs high but things are not cheap. Beautiful place, viewed in great Welsh weather, it had rained but stayed dry for our...
Read moreAn interesting and very picturesque train journey in the heart of the Snowdonia (Eryi) National Park and is also one of most picturesque, relaxing and idyllic of any train journeys in Wales. Although the attraction is wedged in the same general area of the more renowned attractions such as The National Slate Museum and Snowdon Mountain Railway it more than punches above its weight and offers more relaxing and pleasant alternative. The ticket price for the Journey is £10.50 for Adults, which is very reasonable in comparison to other railway journeys in Wales and the rest of the UK. The journey itself lasts approx. 1 hour and runs along Padarn Lake, which is part of The Padarn Lake Country Park and the views along are some of the spectacular and picturesque of any train journey in Wales where you can see the breathtaking and beautiful mountains of Snowdonia and blended in with Padarn Lake make it all the more breathtaking, beautiful and spectacular. Visitors can enjoy their journey on one of three main steam locomotive, which are all Hunslet engines and they are 'Elidir', 'Thomas Bach' & 'Dolbadarn' and all of which are in fabulous magnificent condition. The journey stops for breaks at different point including Cei Llydan where you can in Padarn Lake and Snowdonia Mountains a little bit more. At the Gilfach Ddu stop there is an informative interesting information display about the history of the line. There is a cafe on site selling a small range of food and drink at reasonable prices and there is a gift shop selling a nice range of souvenirs at reasonable prices. Overall this is a delightful and fabulous place to visit and makes for a relaxing and pleasant day out with a great and picturesque train...
