Carpenter's Road Lock is a rising radial lock in the London Borough of Newham, near Marshgate Lane in Stratford, England. It is located on the Bow Back Rivers and was constructed in 1933/34. It is the only lock in Britain with rising radial gates at both ends.

The original gantries, ramps and lock house were demolished over the years with new radial risings gates installed in 2016. This stretch of the park alongside the canal arteries makes for a pleasant stroll with interesting bridges, roads set at different elevations.

A lovely day out walking along the canal from Queen Elizabeth Olympic park to Lee Valley Ice Centre. Carpenters Road Lock has well defined pathways and is surrounded by well manicured lawns. There is plenty of seating available too as well as a number of refreshment outlets. A great place to start a family walk or walk with friends. Highly recommended.

Unique 1930's lock, restored recently to working operation. The Lea & Stort Trip boats use this regularly.

There might be a little smell when this is used, that's the old silt in the canal getting stirred up indicating a healthy growth of bacteria in...
