I was asked to arrive 10-15 minutes early for my treatment, yet when I did, I was told off for being early as they don’t open until 10. The receptionist kindly asked me to sit and fill out a form. She then asked what treatment I would be having, and I explained that it was a birthday gift and a surprise, so I didn’t know. She was clearly not happy with this explanation.
The form itself was basic, so I filled it out and returned it to the receptionist. A few minutes later, a therapist called out a name that sounded nothing like mine. She left, then came back and pronounced my name correctly the second time, clearly not paying attention at first.
I followed her into the treatment room, where I asked her to explain the process since it was my first time and I’d received this treatment as a birthday gift. She gave me little instruction besides telling me where to leave my clothes. She seemed displeased to find me not under the towel, but as it was already 30 degrees and she hadn’t told me to do so, I didn’t realize that was expected.
She asked if I wanted her to focus on a specific area, so I pointed out my shoulders since I’ve had recent back pain. When she started the massage, she asked about the pressure. I told her it could be harder, to which she responded in a tone I didn’t appreciate: “I booked a Swedish massage.” It left me wondering why she asked in the first place. Honestly, the massage was horrendous and a waste of time and the oils used smelled stale and off.
I also had a facial booked. When she began, I mentioned not to apply much pressure on a specific area because I’d recently had surgery. She scolded me for not providing this on the form, even though I had. This made it clear she hadn’t even looked at my form.
She also asked what products I use on my skin, and I said I don’t use any. She told me off for not using products that would prevent skin cancer and proceeded to apply a facial full of chemicals, which has continued to burn my skin even five hours after the treatment. I’m now wondering how that’s supposed to prevent cancer. Most of the products smelled strongly of chemicals, and the oils used smelled stale and off.
There was no relaxing music, and the entire experience was far from relaxing. I would never put myself through this again; it was a joke.
If I could make a recommendation, I would suggest booking a chiropractor or a Thai massage for half the price—you’ll get a treatment that helps you relax and actually...

The lady who did my treatment was far too chatty. I was hoping to relax but for more than half the treatment she was chatting away and asking lots of personal questions. I felt uncomfortable.
I had a scrub followed by a massage. I could have done a better job myself with the scrub. Literally she just went up and down my leg once, same with my arms it was over in what felt like 5 minutes. I was then told to wash off the scrub and get back into the bed for the massage. I said to the lady that the bed had all bits of scrub on it and how am I meant to get back into the bed. She told me to change the towels MYSELF. She seemed confused by this question too. I found this completely unprofessional, I felt like I was doing her job for her. So I showered and changed all of the bedding myself. SHOCKING to say the least.
I was ready for the massage. I could not believe how much oil she used, it was splattering everywhere. I have had many massages in the past at other places and not once have I experienced anything like this. She also asked me the strength of the massage I would like, I told her I like it firm. It was NOT firm, it was like I was gently being rubbed up and down in the same motion over and over again, no proper pressure applied.
She also asked if I would like my head massaged and I explained I don’t want to get my hair oily. She said she would clean her hands before so that my hair doesn’t get dirty. She literally WIPED her oily dripping hands on a towel before massaging (or should I say rubbing lightly) on my scalp. She didn’t bother to wash her hands with soap so of course my hairgot oil all over it.
I walked out of the shop with oily hair and although I tried to remove the oil with a towel on my skin, my body was still very sticky due to how much oil was applied.
This was a birthday gift, I barely treat myself and I have young children so I was really looking forward to unwinding and making the most of having child care arranged and me time, but this was the biggest waste of time. It really felt like the lady doing the treatment didn’t know what she was doing, not just by how she was talking but the treatment itself was rubbish.
Never will I go back or...
Read moreI had 55 min body massage and facial yesterday. My worst ever experience having massage at champney it was definitely not Champneys standard or maybe the standard has gone down. This was my second visit at Enfield. I normally go to Tring or Henlow. I had booked myself and my daughter for massage and facial. It seemed like we both were in 2 different spas. Her room was cozy and warm how it should be, with heated blanket as expected of Champneys. Mine on the other hand ice cold felt like I had my treatment in a freezer yesterday. Through the treatment my hand and feet were numb because of the cold. I had to ask the therapist to increase the temperature on the air con. She said she will have to go out of the room to do so. She went out middle of the treatment to apparently switch off the air con. I felt no difference. The room didn’t even had a blanket. I think the therapist was over worked and she was hot. So she needed air con on. Me on the other hand couldn’t relax and was waiting for the treatment to end when I could not take any longer I had to ask her to end the treatment but she said she will try to cut short the treatment. I had to then say no I don’t want any more treatment as I need to go to toilet. I could not wait to have my clothes on me. I was that cold. I have woken up with stiff body today and sore throat because of being exposed to extremely cold temperature yesterday. Also when I was asked turn half way through the treatment the therapist didn’t even give me a pillow. She expected me to rest my head in the same hole that is for face when we have back massage. So I had to try to adjust my head on the side. Please Champneys train your staff better. Thankfully she did give me neck support when she started facial or otherwise I would have to cancel the facial. I really got excited that Enfield is only 20 mins away from my home so I was hoping to go there regularly but not comfortable any more. I’m kind of relived that my daughter had a good experience as it was a treat for her. I will wait to see what Champneys has to say about it and how can they change their...
