Some reviewers say that these gardens are in the ruins of a Franciscan Church that perished in the Great Fire of 1666. That church, dating from 1225, would have been built primarily of wood. These stone remains belong to a ‘new’ church, designed by Sir Christopher Wren, completed in 1704. The latter was sadly hit by incendiary bombs in 1940 during World War II, leaving only the west tower now standing.

The rose garden, established in 1989, was designed to reflect the floor plan of the original church. A great place to chill or enjoy lunch in the summer. A little grey in January at the time of these photographs, but still worth taking time to pause...

Christ Church Greyfriars in London was originally a 13th-century Franciscan monastery, known for its grand Gothic architecture and royal burials. It became a parish church after the Dissolution of the Monasteries and was later rebuilt by Sir Christopher Wren following the Great Fire of 1666. Nowadays its ruins have been transformed into a tranquil public garden near St Paul's Cathedral. The site remains a poignant blend of medieval history and modern serenity. Follow...

Site of old medieval Church of Christchurch at Greyfriars and Franciscan monastery.

The remains of three Queens of England are interred on this site. (Queen Margarite, second wife of King Edward I; Queen Isabella, notorious wife of King Edward II; & the heart of Queen Eleanor of Provence, wife of King Henry III).

Queen Joan of Scotland, wife of King David II of Scotland was also interred here in the original church, alongside her mother, Queen Isabella of...

Christchurch Greyfriars Church Garden is divided on two areas and it includes a beautiful rose garden. The garden is on the site of the Franciscan Church of Greyfriars established in 1225. The church was destroyed in the great fire of London. Four queens were buried in the old churchy. A new church, designed by Christopher Wren, was completed in 1704 but it was partly destroyed during the bombings of the Second World War. These days only the west tower now stands.

The Christchurch it has so much history behind it from the time that it was a medieval Greyfriars friary which it was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666 and it was rebuilt by Christopher Wren by it was destroyed during the blitz of London. In 1952 it was turned to a lovely rose garden. It has got benches around to enjoy the garden and through the arch it brings you to the the graveyard with more seating areas. There's not a playground or toilets on the site.
