I would recommend going to a larger, better maintained studio with a more patient and generous teacher. I signed up for a 4 week improvers course and was immediately told off for arriving 10 minutes early - this set off alarm bells for me immediately. My first session was a 1 to 1 - the instructor spent a good deal of that session moaning to her colleague about "amateurs", which as an amateur was quite intimidating. She showed me some valuable techniques in the 1 to 1 and is clearly knowledgable, but I found her manner and teaching delivery quite offputting, sucking the joy out of my new hobby.
The other 3 small group sessions were fine if you just want some time on a wheel to practice, but if you are looking for demonstrations, advice and patient instruction (rather than gossiping about questionable topics) I suggest going elsewhere. I've just started a 10 week improvers course at the Kiln room in Peckham and it's so joyful and fun in comparison and Ive just done 1 session! It's also...
Read moreAs it was my very first time throwing pottery, it was everything I imagined it to be and very enjoyable. Unfortunately the owner/instructor was very negative - very very negative! Although very knowledgeable she treated every member of the class as if we were completely incapable and I got a strong sense that she didn't believe that I was capable of anything. She micro managed everything everyone did, which meant we had to wait for her to finish with each individual before we could move on with the next step, because of this it wasn't much of a learning experience and begs the question what is the actual purpose of the class? I've had a taste of throwing pottery and would very much like to do it again but am very reluctant to go back here. I left feeling a bit disaffected. If you're immune to that kind of negativity and backhanded comments then go for it, if you truly want a good experience find somewhere else...
Read moreI took this class a while ago now but still remember the bitter taste left by the instructor. Less than 1 star, in fact I'd give negative if I could. Rude, hostile and unprofessional lady who was more interested in flirting with one of the students trying to push her dating agenda, kept loudly proclaiming that she was single and available to anyone who'd listen, rather than teaching us the craft. This was a advertised as a complete beginners class but she was so impatient as if she expected us to know how to spin the wheel, load the clay etc. Was told that will receive an email when the product I made will be ready. Received no email. On politely contacting via phone was rudely told that she doesn't remember me coming in! Paid good money for the class, was a complete rubbish experience. Would not recommend and would love to get my money back if possible! Surprised she is still...
