A Truly Disappointing Experience - Hamleys Regent St.
I visited Hamleys on Regent Street this morning, and what should have been a magical experience quickly turned into a nightmare. My child and I were enticed by a demonstration of the Zorbi, a magic toy, expertly pitched by Dan. Impressed, we decided to purchase it. What Dan conveniently failed to mention was the need for a 'magician's wire'—a crucial detail that we only discovered later. Feeling misled, we returned to the store to request a refund.
This is where things went from bad to worse. At the returns counter, we encountered Adleisha, who greeted us with arrogance and rudeness. Instead of addressing our concerns, she launched into a tirade about her eight years of experience (as if that excuses poor customer service). Without resolving our issue, she abruptly left the counter, leaving us in the hands of another employee, who informed us that since the box was opened, a refund wasn't an option, and we were only eligible for a gift card. Excuse me, but this is outrageous! How convenient to withhold critical product information and then refuse a refund!
Not wanting to leave without understanding the full picture, we went back upstairs to watch the sales pitch again. This time, Ross was demonstrating the Zorbi, and unlike Dan, he actually mentioned the 'magician's wire' and was courteous enough to explain how it worked. Armed with this new information, I returned to Adleisha to enquire about the inconsistency in their sales approach. Unfortunately, she remained unapologetic and condescending, insisting that "Dan is the manager," as if that absolved her of her terrible customer service.
Hamleys seriously needs to reconsider its approach to sales, customer service, and honesty. If this is how they treat their customers, then it's no wonder the store was half-empty. This was my first visit to Hamleys, and I assure you it will be my last. I will make sure to share this appalling experience with everyone I know. I usually refrain from giving bad reviews (check my history), but this situation demands an exception. If you're looking for a magical experience, steer clear of Hamleys—it's nothing but smoke...
Read moreI am writing to express my dissatisfaction with a very unpleasant experience I had today at your store located at 188-196 Regent St., London W1B 5BT. I would like to formally complain about the inappropriate behavior of the security guard at the entrance.
Here is what happened: This morning, I first went shopping at POP MART on Oxford Street and then visited Hamleys. While at Hamleys, I noticed that your store also has a POP MART shop, so I made additional purchases there. As I was about to leave Hamleys, the security guard at the entrance stopped me in a very unfriendly manner and demanded to see my purchase receipt. Since I was carrying many items, it was inconvenient for me to search for the receipt. I explained to the guard that these items were not purchased at Hamleys and that they already had POP MART’s “purchased item” labels attached. However, the guard ignored my explanation and insisted on seeing the receipt.
During this process, I suggested going downstairs to the POP MART shop to have their staff confirm my recent purchase, as I had just completed the transaction and even had a conversation with the POP MART staff. However, the guard remained unyielding and refused to accept any alternative proof, insisting that I provide the receipt. Ultimately, I had to spend a significant amount of time searching for the receipt before I was allowed to leave.
To begin with, I do not usually keep purchase receipts, and it was only by chance that I had not discarded them this time. However, the guard’s attitude throughout the entire process was extremely unfriendly and even seemed biased and discriminatory, which made me feel very uncomfortable and upset.
I had initially held a very positive impression of Hamleys, as the friendly service from your staff had made my shopping experience enjoyable. However, the inappropriate behavior of the security guard at the exit severely impacted my experience and even made me question the overall service quality...
