Excellent service. It is busy because the pastries are sublime. If you want to be served faster, go to some mass- production -of -ultraprocessed- rubbish-cafe or a fast food chain, like a number of neighbouring cafes. I have tried most of the items on the menu.
The chocolate chip cookie is wonderful, and sugared just right. Make sure they dont overheat it though or it will crumble.
The wonderful pain au chocolat could do with more chocolate in them.
The chocolate cream supreme croissant was a surprise. It is full of cream, but it is not sickly sweet at all. After eating it I felt fine, in contrast to the chocolate ganache croissant monstrosity from the Aux de Merveilleux branch at high street Kensington station which I tried on another occasion which made me feel sick for hours, and I say this as a huge fan of their brioche bread .
The escargot au raisin was sublime, and is the best pastry of its kind I have ever eaten anywhere.
The Cinnamon buns were wonderful as well
The chocolate babka was very flaky and melted in the mouth.
The borek cheese pastry was the best savoury pastry I have ever eaten.
Most pastries these days particularly those from large chains, are over sugared, to conceal the low quality ingredients they use, and leave you craving more sugar and wanting more. It is very easy to overeat those pastries.
THESE pastries are of such high quality that one can see why the French can have them for breakfast, not feel hungry and be energetic and aren't ravenously hungry come lunch time. It is easy to have one or even two and then say ' enough" without needing any willpower, a testament to their uniqueness.
This is the best bakery around and I look forward to sampling the rest of the menu I have not tasted yet. If they could add some brioche bread with raisins, and more chocolate in the croissants, they would be the only bakery I...
Read moreWe saw some pictures of their giant croissants on IG , and we wanted to try them. We went all the way to South Kensington, arriving shortly after 11. We found a table and we sat, and then I approached the counter to order. Staff were numerous and seemed busy, but apparently only one of them was taking customer orders, and was rude enough to ignore me and serve other people who entered the shop after me. When "my turn" finally arrived, I ordered a giant croissant and a coffee, but the person told me that the giant croissants were sold out, even though there were quite a few on the shelves. He said that we should have reserved one, but previously I've looked at their website to find the exact locations and look at the menu, and it didn't say anything about "reserving a croissant". The staff member mentioned that they announced it on social media (I hadn't read their IG extensively, because I assumed that such an important piece of information for customers would be prominently displayed on their website), but even now I can't find anything on IG about reserving a croissant, they just said "available in limited quantities during the weekend". So we left empty-handed, thinking that they have terrible customer service. They know that if they promote such a novelty as this in IG people will come for it, but they're not capable of producing enough of them. And they should clearly advise customers that giant croissants have to be reserved the day before. And they should train their staff to be more polite...
Read moreI would not even give it 1 star. Absolute worst customer service experience ever! Came in with 3 young children and quickly sat them down so we could order. The waiter/manager whoever he was very rudely and very persistently kept coming to the table asking the kids and my sister in law to leave as we had not bought anything. We explained that I was in the queue and as it was cold and we had 3 children we thought best to seat them first. The cafe was so busy but his only focus was removing us from the table and very rudely asking us to leave. There was another family who did the same thing as us but they were only told once. They didn't leave but he did not have a problem with them and did not keep asking them to leave. There were another 2 tables where the customers had clearly finished a long time ago but it was fine for them to sit and talk yet we were told we were being very unfair on the customers waiting before myself in the queue even though I was in the queue as a customer myself. A very big shame as we travelled a long way for this with very young kids. All we got was we were going against policy but funny how it was only my family that kept getting targeted and the same rule and treatment did not apply to all. I hate to say it but i do believe we were racially profiled as women in hijab. It was not a nice feeling to be picked out like this in a very public setting and treated so unfairly...
