South Kensington Books — Local services in London

So disappointed, frankly I think this shop is extremely underhanded. I bought a first edition signed book, only to find out it was a signed book plate when it arrived, I didn't know better and kept the book (had I known this is considered unacceptable, and is misrepresenting what you sell, I would have returned it). I then messed up and bought another first edition signed book from South Kensington books several months later not realising it was the same shop I had been conned by before, and again, when the book arrived I was beyond disappointed to find out it was another book plate. I have now looked in to this and every other book store I can find clearly state that it’s a book plate or it’s actually signed, whereas South Kensington books will happily sell a signed book plate as a signed edition; deceitful, underhanded, and I would imagine goes against trading standards, something I will be looking in to and will be reporting this...

After investing the day at the Natural History Museum, my wife and I enjoyed walking around the area and stopped by this bookstore. The experience was excellent! I believe that one must hear or get informed about both sides of each story, so I do not mind visiting bookstores that cater to a different demographics than mine. The store my be small, but they had some interesting books... and the staff!!! They were kind, knowledgeable, and generous with their time and attention to our needs. We were in London for 23 days and South Kensington Books was one of the commercial establishments where we received one of the best customer service during the length of our stay. A fantastic local bookshop with a selection of new titles and discounted books. It is small but very well curated, with specialisms in art, travel and quirky non-fiction. It also stocks interesting random books which are not always available in big bookstores, and because of its small size it can really highlight those gems and treasures which would have gotten completely lost in a bigger store. This is definitely a store to browse and pick up something that catches your fancy, not necessarily a shop to come to with a definite...
