Lovely historic church and cemetery, parts of this church used wood from the Fighting Temeraire, one of Nelson's flagships. This ship was broken up at the end of it's life at a local yard which was located now where The Old Salt Quay pub is. The church is well worth looking up and visiting also because of the connections with the Mayflower and the Pilgrim Father's.(Give this a Google search for details). Also a bit of history that is infamous is that the body of Jack"The Hat"Mcvitie was left wrapped in eiderdown up against the gates of the church in the 60s.He was an associate of the Krays.Jack was murdered by one of the Krays and his body was taken by car through the Rotherhithe Tunnel and left by the church as a "message"to the Richardson's of South London, they were the enemies of the Krays south of the river. If you visit the church also try The Mayflower pub which is really nice or The Angel pub on a nice day which is located right next to the ruins of Edward 3rds Manor House. The Angel is about a 5 min walk from the church travelling westwards along the river path via the warehouses which are now upmarket apartments. The Angel pub has good rustic food and a small balcony overlooking the river with a view of Tower Bridge to the left about a mile in...
