I don’t normally write reviews but the service of this place was shocking.

I’d been recommended by a friend to visit so I booked a surprise meal online for 8 people for my boyfriends birthday.

The other guests arrived first. The guy who took us up to the table, who had previously seated the other guests gave the surprise away on the way up to the table by saying ‘you’ve booked the table for 8 guests?’ which is fine but just gave away the surprise before he could see his friends.

The drinks then took around 25 minutes to come which was fine, the waitresses were lovely and it was busy so it’s understandable.

We ordered in couples as opposed to sharing, so all the food was separate to each couple. 2 couples ordered a puri as part of their order & only 1 of the plates came out, so we reordered another one but it took 30 mins to come so we sent it away.

When we received the bill there was 3 portions of puri on there for 3.95 so I disputed it to the manager and I have NEVER in my life been met by someone so rude and defensive as a restaurant manager.

His explanation was that both 3.95 single puri’s came out on 1 plate to save plates, which is NOT for the customer to know.

He said he’d take the 1 off that got sent back as though he was doing us a favour for sending something back that took 30 minutes to arrive and we didn’t eat.

I then asked the waitress to bring the manager as we wanted to dispute the other one & I could hear him speaking to her explaining the situation and slagging us off which is just AWFUL service.

He then came over, I was so calm explaining why i didn’t think we should be paying for 2 puris if they came on 1 plate and he interrupted me and was being so rude!

I wasn’t complaining, just disputing an error on the bill, however it’s the principle for the fact a man was arguing with me over a 3.95 puri and being so rude.

I’ve been out for a LOT of meals in my lifetime, and never have I had someone belittle me, argue with me, especially over something for 3.95. You’d have thought he was mowgli himself.

I wouldn’t recommend going on a Saturday night. & don’t dare dispute anything on the bill if he’s on shift unless you want a 15 minute argument. What a horrible meal & waste of time and money. Will not be...

My wife and I were on a night out just after Christmas to visit Manchester Cathedral, so I decided to make a booking with Mowgli as it was one of the restaurants me and the wife wanted to try in the Corn exchange as we have been to one or two of the other restaurant in the past . We arrived, and we were asked if we wanted inside or outside seating. we opted for outside. One of the waitresses came and asked about drinks we were having. After a short time, she asked if we were ready to order, and my wife explained that she is allergic to peppers 🌶 so the waitress got someone who had more experience who could deal with explaining and checking with the kitchen staff that was Liv a fantastic member of staff who took the time with my wife to talk us through the menu without rushing us even though the restaurant was busy. We settled on the set menu as it had a bit of everything and was at a good price. The feasting menu was 35 pounds per person. You get a glass of bubbly a starter , a main , and a desert .My wife and I had a lovely evening, and the staff member who chatted to us from the start was lovely and helpful too. sorry we did not get her name, but she was very professional . But Liv, come over at the end with our bill and check everything was OK with the food but to check my wife injoy her food . They ask if you would like to make a 1 pound donation to their charity added to the bill it's optional, and you are under no obligation to do this . The restaurant is a lovely place to have an evening out, and it's in a wonderful building that is in the corn exchange. Will I visit this restaurant again? Absolutely 💯 thanks to everyone for a warm welcome on a wet...

The food was exactly what we expected if not better. The Chat Bombs are literally the bomb! The food was tasty and in my opinion decent street food. So much so I would eat the food again. We'd just choose a different Mowgli.

That's where the good ends.

The service was so slow I felt myself aging while waiting even for my drinks order to be taken. The young lad who was waiting the table was rushed off his feet whilst the ?manager was chatting to her friends at the bar. No other staff were present.

The food took an age to arrive, so much so they actually removed one of the courses from the bill without us even mentioning a complaint. This does not redeem the review.

We watched the ? Manager turn people away at 1630 for a table saying that the restaurant (which was practically empty) was fully booked with tables booked for 1845. We then watched her lie to her colleagues by saying she hadn't turned them away but that they'd not bothered to stay. She then continues to tut and sigh when anyone unfortunately bothered or attempted to walk in for some food.

This ? Manager had spent the majority of the meal opening and closing a door into the back of my partners chair so many times it started to resemble a drum and bass track.

Not one member of staff asked how our meal was and it took a friend who was swigging Starbucks at the bar to mention that we may be dissatisfied with our meal.

We enjoyed the food and the service from the young man but it appears that this restaurant is more of a social club for the ? Manager than anything else.

For context the ? Manager was a young girl with reddy/black hair fashioned into a pony tail, not in uniform...

First Impressions: Nice little restaurant, street chic kind of feel, lots of old style fitting, the lights were a nice little touch created a rustic vibe to overall feel, naturally made you feel relaxed! Point of Contact: We were seen too very quickly and seated down promptly, the staff were incredibly polite and pretty much at hand when needed, we were unfamiliar with Mowglis and the staff were happy to explain and recommend certain foods with a break down of how the menu works. Food: Mowgli Chip Butty: The fenugreek and Turmeric really added the flavour and created that real Indian taste, there was more than enough for two people to eat, so much flavour and then it being wrapped really had me enjoy a chip butty! Mowgli Sticky Wings: If you are about sweet things, then this is the dish for you! Super sticky, super sweet and the wings are so crispy and the added sesame is a nice touch for decoration. House lamb curry with Puri & Basmati: Back to the all flavours again, it tasted authentic, the sauce was so moreish that you wanted to drink from the bowl like a soup, the rice was fluffy and the right texture and bread was crispy and fresh just added that nice savoury to the dish. Mother Butter Chicken: All the above applies except the sauce was so smooth and the chicken literally just melted in your mouth, an awesome dish. Final thoughts: Great little restaurant with some amazing food! I look forward to our second visit :)

We had such a lovely time at Mowgli's. The food was absolutely delicious and so wonderfully unique. It works in a similar way to Spanish Tapas in that you choose a few different options to eat all together instead of 'This is the starter... This is the main etc'. Between my wife and I, we chose 6 meals and then 1 rice to share and that was the right amount for us, any more and we wouldn't have been able to finish it all. We had: Yogurt Chat Bombs - an explosion of different flavours in your mouth. Absolutely delicious. Mowgli Chip Butty - 😍😍 I could have eaten 6 of these. Perfectly seasoned Indian cubed potatoes in a roti wrap. 1 word... FIT! Lamb chops - melt in your mouth indulgence. So so good and came with more of the mini Indian potatos. Winner winner! Sticky Wings - Sticky, crunchy, heavenly! Then we had the House Chicken Curry and the House Lamb Curry. Now in our heads we thought of these as our mains with the rice. However, they do say when you order that the dishes come out whenever they are ready so these actually arrived about 5/10 minutes after the other meals so we were eating everything together. Which is exactly how it should be with these dishes and why I said at the start it's not your typical "This is the starter... This is the main" which was so refreshing and unique and meant that the food was so fresh and quick to arrive. So definitely no complaints at all.
