Huge selection of shops & brands Whether you want high street chains (Primark, H&M, Uniqlo), tech brands, or more niche stores, Arndale has it. It really covers the full spectrum.

Great location & access Right in the city centre, well connected via tram, bus, and walking routes. That means no long treks if you’re staying in or around town.

Atmosphere & variety The food market inside is often praised (“dazzling array of vendors”), and there’s a buzz—especially around meal times or weekends.

Cleanish and well-maintained generally Outside of some specific complaints, many say it feels clean and functional. If you compare it to older malls or unrenovated ones, it stacks up quite well.

👎 What people complain about

Parking is a pain—expensive, confusing, stressful This is probably the biggest gripe. Some common complaints:

Pay on arrival system is confusing (many expect pay on exit).

Wardens are harsh (tickets even when you try to pay).

The car park experience—dull, poorly lit lifts/stairwells with odor or cleanliness issues.

Security & safety concerns There are regular reports of theft, antisocial behaviour, and disturbance. Not always violent, but enough that many people are cautious, especially later in the day.

The centre does report having CCTV 24h and security staff, plus cooperation with police.

Market traders feel overlooked Some stallholders say they don’t get enough marketing, the market space can be neglected, or food-smell vs clothing trade overlap causes friction.

Design & layout issues It can feel maze-like in places. Corridors switch direction, dead ends, confusing signage. Also, architectural disputes—especially the old yellow-tiled exterior (“vomit-coloured,” “aggressively ugly”) are still often brought up.

Crowded & busy At peak shopping times especially, it’s full. Sometimes too full, which makes moving around or browsing less relaxing.

⚡ My take: who it’s good for / not so good for

Go if: You want a central, one-stop shopping location. You like variety (shops + food + market). You’re okay with crowds. You're prepared for the parking hassle.

Don’t go if: Premium parking costs bug you. You want a relaxed, tidy, quiet browse. You’re not a fan of confusing layouts or wading through lots of people.

If I were to sum it up: Manchester Arndale is exactly what a big city centre mall in a busy city should be—lively, sometimes messy, sometimes frustrating—but useful and with its own character. Not perfect, but hard to avoid if you want...

Manchester Arndale, situated in the heart of the city, is a popular shopping destination that draws in crowds from all walks of life. With a diverse array of stores spanning fashion, electronics, homeware, and more, the mall caters to a wide range of tastes and budgets. From high-end boutiques to budget-friendly retailers, there's something for everyone under its roof.

However, like any bustling shopping center, the experience at Manchester Arndale can vary. During peak hours, navigating through the crowds can be a challenge, and finding a quiet spot to relax can sometimes be elusive. Additionally, the layout of the mall may be confusing for first-time visitors, requiring some exploration to find specific stores or amenities.

While the majority of staff members are generally helpful and approachable, the level of service can be inconsistent across different stores. Some shoppers may encounter long wait times at checkout counters or difficulty in locating assistance when needed. Despite this, many visitors appreciate the convenience of having a variety of shops in one location and find the overall shopping experience satisfactory.

One of the highlights of Manchester Arndale is its selection of dining options, ranging from fast food outlets to sit-down restaurants. These eateries provide shoppers with a welcome respite from their retail adventures, offering a chance to refuel and recharge before diving back into the shopping fray.

In conclusion, Manchester Arndale serves as a bustling retail hub in the heart of the city, offering shoppers a diverse selection of stores and dining options. While navigating the crowds and encountering occasional service issues are part of the experience, many visitors find the convenience and variety of offerings worth the trip. Whether you're on the hunt for the latest fashion trends or simply enjoying a day out, Manchester Arndale remains a central destination for shopping enthusiasts...

A terrible place to go to avoid it like the plague from Monday to Sunday, absolutely packed with school children fighting each other on a day to day basis, people had been mugged and stabbed in there especially in the Food court. different gangs from Manchester gathering there organising fights, gangs of children intimidating people all the time you have definitely got to watch your pockets with your Money Phone Keys etc.And as for the Security they are a complete waste of time when I have seen it kick off they don't know what to do or to slow to react .it's the same on Market Street and Piccadilly Gardens you have got to be on your toes looking over your shoulder it is rife, Drug dealers selling Drugs, taking Drugs, people sleeping rough which sometimes it's not there fault, people fighting, people have been stabbed, mugged, forced to cash machine for money, people asking for money everywhere you go that's why the police are there every day of the week dealing with idiots who make Manchester a dangerous place day and night. When you look at Piccadilly Gardens in the 70s and 80s it was a lovely place to go to with the family, water fountains, flowers everywhere, children swings, people would have picnics on a Sunday but how times have changed for the worse, and as for Manchester City Council they should be ashamed of themselves because for years they have sat on there backside and allowed this to happen and now the rest of the public are suffering the consequences because of Andy Burnham and his big ideas. Manchester Arndale, Market Street, Piccadilly Gardens, is never dull you can guarantee something is going to happen in the most dangerous places...

We stayed at the royal exchange one, on Cross street. Would 10/10 recommend! So close to the shops and bars. #manchester #hotels #budgethotel #motelone #manchesterhotels #placestostay #budgettravel @Booking.com

I walked in circles. I didn’t go anywhere much, because we arrived quite late, but in general there is something to see, where to take a walk, the only thing is that we went to the Max Penser shopping center store. It was very inconvenient for me that we left the car in the parking lot and then it was very difficult to get into this room to pick up our car. No, there are no identification marks, no information stend But in any case, it was quite clean and there were a lot of people, what I liked most of all was that everything was very much musical. I wanted to see something unusual, but, as always, it's a bit complicated with a lot of modern buildings, there was only one building, which is already several hundred years old, but anyway, I think that living in such a city. I wouldn't because it's rather boring It's gloomy and it's rather incomprehensible what exactly is going on in this city, but in any case I think that maybe I'm wrong about something, But I There are a lot of shops in the city center, but I would still like people to work so that those who come to the city can find what they are looking for, because with this. Because this is a big problem. We tried to find popular fish pavilions only on the Internet, but the Internet also did not indicate a detailed route, because we had to go through the entire pavilion. This also needs to be worked on, as there are places that people need to know, places that are really popular, so I think that needs to be worked on.
