“The Mayflower Steps are close to the site in the Barbican area of Plymouth, south-west England, from which the Pilgrim Fathers are believed to have finally left England aboard the Mayflower on 6 September 1620, before crossing the Atlantic Ocean to settle in North America. The traditional site of their disembarkation in North America is Plymouth Rock.” The steps themselves are not the original ones the Pilgrims left from for North America, in fact the Pilgrims weren’t from Plymouth at all, but rather East Anglia, and when their ship was damaged they had to stop at Plymouth for repairs before leaving from there for their final journey. I did not get time to visit it, but there's a tourist information centre on the ground floor where I found helpful staff, and was given a free map of Plymouth. Well worth coming here to learn about this significant event in British...
