Let's start with the good bits: Room spacious and very clean. Bathroom very clean too with an efficient shower. Room quiet. Steep steps up to the top floor not an issue for us either. The location is very handy for the Hoe and the theatre. Fruit salad at breakfast appealing.||Less good: The decor and styling in our room could be described as creative. I'd call it confused. One of the two tea cups provided in the room was cracked and chipped. ||What seems to have been a lot of Saturday bookings seemed to put a strain on things. The friendly receptionist who greeted us had to wrangle parking space issues as we arrived. The solution appeared to be both her and a fellow staff member moving their cars out of the hotel car park. (The rear car park is probably not for the faint-hearted on a busy day.)||Poor: Breakfast was scheduled into two sittings. We pre-ordered our cooked breakfasts the night before. The first sitting at 8 am was busy in a way that seemed to catch the staff on the hop. (I overheard one of the nice, but possibly overwhelmed, youngsters serving say to her colleague "We're going to run out of table, we'll have to put people in the bar.") Our cooked order arrived at 8.52 am. About 51 minutes after we arrived in the breakfast room. The serving staff, whose fault it probably wasn't, were apologetic, but nothing other than a apology was offered.||Meanwhile some attempt at clearing other tables from guests who had got fed more promptly seemed to stall. The debris and cleaning cloth left on the table next to us were still in evidence when we left. ||Reception was unstaffed at this point, with a tray for room keys. It was still unstaffed when we checked out around an hour later or I might have raised the breakfast issue...||I think we would have been fed more swiftly and just as adequately at the Premier Inn...
Read moreThis is the second year we have stayed here. Booked last year as a base for the Plymouth 10k and was blown away with the room. Booked a family room for the three of us, it was right at the top of the hotel, massive and everything looked freshly painted and brand new. They were kind enough to let us have a late check out due to running the race. Bit of a mix up over breakfast as the front of house staff said there would be an early brekkie but hasn’t told the chef who wasn’t too impressed with a load of hungry runners raring to go. But we managed a nice continental.|As soon as we booked to do the same race this year, there was no question where to stay. This time we booked a twin as it was just the two and the room was of just a good a standard and hurrah they’d sorted out an early breakfast this time, which they were also happy to do as a take out! Result! Again, they kindly let us have a late check out which was fab.|Would highly recommend the hotel and if we do the run again next year, we’ll be back for round 3!|Thanks to you all for all you did and see...
Read moreWe knew about the Drake hotel as we used to stay in the Number 1 next door until it closed. So my wife and I decided to give it a try and we were not disappointed in fact it was beyond our expectations. We were greeted by Carly who looked after us during the day and Jenny looked after us during the evening both exceptional they were very friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay a pleasureable one which we were very grateful for. There rooms were immaculate and had everything we needed. The lounge bar which we used in the evening was amazing being able to just relax this is probably something you would get anywhere else. The breakfast room was fantastic very beautifully done, the choice of food was excellent and great quality it was prepared and cooked to perfection. It was more that obvious that the owners believe in providing the best for customers and the staff work as a team take great pride in delivering the best experience where nothing is to much trouble and more than...
