Beautiful Victorian pier that is in great condition and free to visit. Personally I think that the pier is particularly good in winter when the sea can be very dramatic. I also really enjoy the frequent knitting displays that can often be found tied to the railings, particularly to celebrate special events. Construction of the pier began in December 1867, and the pier was opened to the public in May 1869. The pier was originally 1,500 feet long, however, in October 1875, a gale struck the pier, removing 300 feet of the structure at the seaward end. There was further severe storm damage in 1974, when the pier head was lost and the deck damaged, leaving a length of 1,100 feet. In 1975 the council submitted an application to have the pier demolished. A "Save the Pier" campaign led to a public enquiry, which concluded that only the final thirteen piers could be removed. This left a 681 feet length of refurbished pier, which reopened in June 1978. In 2000, the council was successful in gaining a National Lottery heritage grant, enabling many of the original features to be conserved or restored. Reopened as a Grade II listed building in July 2001. In October 2005, the pier was greatly enhanced by the installation of under deck lighting which illuminates...

Walk round the beach. Get wet if you want to. Take it all in 🧘♀️
There is the arcade thing which was very exciting for a first timer like me :) barely won anything but still lots of fun playing. There is a cash machine inside so don’t worry if you don’t have cash on you.
The food—-I had fish and chips duuuh 🤪 at the seaview restaurant. The views are absolutely worth it but there are other chippy places nearby so you can buy and sit on one of the many benches and enjoy it that way. Please have an ice cream as a dessert it’s just amazing plus you deserve it. Oh there is also Tomahawk steak house nearby with great views so if you fancied something else other than fish and chips
Dog friendly Child friendly

Read moreBeautiful location great for all the family. With classic sea front views "including seagulls" Great fish & chips from a selection of sea from shops, entertainment for the kids within the arcade & play areas during seasonal holiday breaks etc. It can get busy during summer time so parking can be difficult even now with a much improved car park (you can still struggle etc) Great walks along the sea front with a hill side tram to make your way into the small salt burn town shopping area. Yes you'll also find a good selection of pubs hidden away within the town itself. The pier is a nice play to walk along usually topped off with a selection of fishermen trying to catch a local delicacy (Tampax, used condoms with the odd boot for good measure) Some locals have taken to surfing so catching a glimpse of ppl surfing the saltburn great eastern waves , this will keep you entertained for atleast 30 seconds at a time. Still a great area to visit & tons for kids to-do during...
