Cornwall and St Ives ARE NOT DOG FRIENDLY. The council have decided to treat dog owners as lepers. They are shunted to desolate places without facilities, or into an actual leper colony in St Ives. called Bamaluz Beach. The beach is 100m wide and one of the smallest beaches available. It is much much much more crowded than other beaches because there are more lepers than the colony can contain. I think you would need a measure something like "Dogs per square inch" to help quantify the problem. My visit was BEFORE the school holidays. I shudder to think about the overcrowding in summer when the bulk of dog owners arrive with their kids shunted into this 100m space! The council has a discrimination policy against dog owners. My suggestion to them is to is that if they are going to create a leper colony, then I think they will need to choose a bigger facility if they want to be considered dog friendly. Let's face it, the town wants our money but not our dogs. So don't be conned. Cornwall and St Ives markets itself as "dog friendly" but forgets to tell your dogs will be banned during school holidays. So please bring your pet to our lovely town, our the hotels and campsites will accommodate you and your pet, but while you are here please don't let...
Read moreGood beach if you have a dog with you. Dogs were permitted on the day we visited. May be year-round... not sure. Can get overcrowded on a sunny day. Parking nearby was not available. Anticipate a lengthy walk up steep stairs to parking areas. We only found parking about 1 mile away. On a flat terrain this is not a challenge; in steep terrain this proved somewhat challenging -- especially after swimming and walking about all day.
General comment to council.
The St Ives dog friendly beach. Did you get that! DOG FRIENDLY! Why do people who don’t like dogs go onto this beach. Just about every time we visit there is someone fuming away because there are dogs on the beach. Amazes me! They only have 5 other beaches to choose from but still come to this smallest one. It does get busy with dogs, which can be great if they are all getting along, or a bit spicy if they are not. Despite those problems I love this little beach and have spent many hours here with our dogs over the years. You always get to meet some other doggy people and of course the dogs just think it is the best thing ever with lots of new friends. Finally. NO! I am not puting my dog on it’s lead...
