St Ives Harbour Beach is a vibrant and picturesque spot that perfectly captures the charm of this iconic Cornish town. Located right in the heart of St Ives, the beach offers stunning views of the harbor, with colorful fishing boats bobbing on the water and quaint buildings lining the shore. It’s a truly scenic location that feels quintessentially British.
The beach itself is unique in that it changes dramatically with the tides. At low tide, there’s plenty of soft, golden sand to relax on, perfect for sunbathing, building sandcastles, or simply taking in the views. The shallow, calm waters make it a great spot for paddling, especially for families with young children. It’s also a wonderful place to sit and watch the world go by, with plenty of activity in the harbor to keep things interesting.
One of the best things about St Ives Harbour Beach is its convenience. Being so central, it’s just steps away from the town’s shops, cafes, and restaurants, making it easy to grab a bite to eat or a refreshing drink whenever you need a break from the sun. The nearby facilities are a big plus, especially if you’re spending a full day at the beach.
However, because of its central location, the beach can get quite crowded, particularly during the summer months. It’s a popular spot for tourists, so if you’re looking for a quiet, secluded beach experience, this might not be the best choice. Also, be mindful of the tides—when the water comes in, the beach becomes very narrow, and space can be limited.
Despite the occasional crowd, St Ives Harbour Beach has a lot of charm and is definitely worth a visit. The combination of its beautiful setting, easy access to town, and the lively atmosphere make it a fantastic spot to experience the best of St Ives. Whether you’re looking to relax on the sand, enjoy some traditional fish and chips by the sea, or simply soak up the town’s lively atmosphere, St Ives Harbour Beach has something...
Read moreWorst place in cornwall! It's an overly busy tourist trap, even out of season! You're shoulder to shoulder in every shop and all along the harbour front, or tripping over the hundreds of dogs being walked carelessly. The "beach" is just imported sand to make it look nicer. Parking is difficult and hard to find a carpark with any spaces... even out of season. Also most carparks are no where near anything and involve a walk down/uphill through the 'rat warren' maze of tight streets.
The crazy thing about St Ives is, most of the shop owners say it's 'quiet' in October... but it's still busy as heck. I'd dread to think what peak summer time is like. Also the few tourists I spoke to all seemed to be from 'London way on' and all say "isn't it lovely here, we always come to get away from it all". To which, my immediate thought is; "get away from what? Armegeddon?!"
Seriously, this is not a place to visit if you want to relax and unwind, or like peace and quiet! Worst and most hectic coastal town in...
Read moreEvery beach in St Ives is stunning. The Water is so clear you can see the fish when they are in, swimming around in it.
You will have to take extra care when it's holiday season though, as some visitors come from areas where there are no rubbish bins and they don't know how to use them, poor things. I think they must also book holiday homes with no rubbish collection facilities as they seem to think leaving dirty nappies on the beach is more acceptable then taking them with them. See photos!
It is a very very busy WORKING harbour with not only a local fishing fleet running from it but several boat men who use their boats for pleasure trips around the bay area. It's worth keeping this in mind when deciding to spend the day there. The boats that are left in the harbour, even when it's dry, are working boats and not tourist attractions, towel dryers or climbing frames for bored children. They are someone's means of...
