I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Rum & Crab Shack, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience. From the moment I stepped in, the attentive service and warm ambiance set the stage for a delightful meal. The menu boasted an array of delectable dishes that catered to various palates. However, what truly elevated the experience was the breathtaking view of the harbour. As I enjoyed my meal, I couldn't help but be captivated by the stunning vista that stretched out before me. The combination of savory flavors and the picturesque scene made for an unforgettable dining adventure. The waitstaff's knowledge of the menu and their genuine enthusiasm for ensuring a pleasant visit further enhanced the overall impression. Every course was a masterpiece, crafted with care and presented elegantly. In conclusion, The Rum & Crab Shack is a gem that seamlessly blends culinary excellence with a mesmerizing waterfront view. Whether it's a special occasion or simply a desire for a memorable dining escapade, this establishment truly delivers on both its cuisine and its panoramic setting. They do not take booking walk in only. I would suggest getting there early and have a few drinks at the bar.

Had our dinner here after been turned away at 2 other restaurants as they were full. We came in here as they had what we wanted... A crab linguine and a pulled pork taco and price was reasonable. Firstly... They seem to be understaffed as it took a while before anyone took notice of us (we can understand that). The good thing was that we got a decent seat facing the sea/waters which was amazing. However the taco was average while the linguine lacks flavour and the pasta was slightly overcooked (instead of being Al dente). I will give them extra points for the huge portion for the linguine though. Drinks wise, we had a strawberry mocktail drink which was refreshing and a great easy to drink and my first ever Jamaican beer (red stripe). I may have given a 3/5 but it's actually not that bad. They just need to improve on their staffs and the 2 dishes we had, esp the linguine. Guess to be fair, this feels like a 6.75/10 and will I be back? I wouldn't mind if the other popular spots are full. Still enjoying the view while I am writing this!

Booked in advance + chose the restaurant based on many main courses on their website. On our arrival, we had a disappointing choice of just 3 main courses: Crab, crab tacos or fish and chips. An email from the owners giving us a heads up that this would be the case would have been greatly appreciated, but we were not given advance warning. We considered leaving, but worried about where else we could go in the peak summer holidays with no reservation, so reluctantly stayed. The crab tacos were more like lettuce tacos with a slither of mayo and the odd bit of crab. I feel my attached photo will describe how dismal the dish was. The profit margins on this must be phenomenal as the lack of crab, salsa etc. was unacceptable. The service was 'alright' but I know the industry is struggling at the moment so we wouldn't have given a negative review based on this. My issue is with the owners, misleading us with 1 menu online and another on the day, plus terrible dishes designed for maximum profit and minimum taste. I would not recommend.

Very rushed environment. I’m sorry that I have to give you only 3 stars however the service and atmosphere felt like we were at McDonald’s… we didn’t feel like a valued customer it felt very much like we should eat and leave so you can have your table back quickly. My fiancé even made a comment that he felt he was eating really quickly. Not a great thing to feel when we spent over £200 on food and drink with you guys. We turned up early to enjoy the 2-4-£14 cocktails and had a few rounds of these and then proceeded to ask if we could eat at 5pm with two dogs, we were told you only had limited tables for dog owners which is fair enough! We were grateful as dog owners that you had seating for dog owners however the seating area for the dog owners was shocking! At the start of the restaurant so people were constantly walking past the dogs anyway? Surely we would be better near the back end of the restaurant… the majority of the dog tables were high seated tables too just to note to any other dog owners. I didn’t feel 100% comfortable with the dogs too, you know sometimes you enter a restaurant and you fee at ease like you fee the dogs belong there, this isn’t that kind of establishment. You sort of feel like the dogs shouldn’t be allowed there? Anyway as soon as we sat down we were given menus which was good! But we literally just scammed through them and about two seconds later was asked if we were ready… We opted for a starter and a main. The starters came out about 5-10 mins after ordering. They were delicious don’t get me wrong! I recommend the Garlic mayo! However I ate mine and my fiancé was still eating his, literally just as he was chewing on his last bite our plates were scooped out from under us with a quick “thanks” from the waitress… no check back? Okay… We noticed that as we were waiting for our mains the queue to be seated had grown alot and the lady seating people looked very stressed as tables were spilling in on a Tuesday night. Our mains arrived my partner ordered the whole lobster at £70 and I opted for the burger. Very delicious and a good amount of food for the price tag. I finished mine again before my partner and he then proceeded to say he feels rushed because our surroundings were very quick, the waiters/waitresses were rushing around cleaning plates, pushing tables together and looking all round a bit stressed. Baring in mind we haven’t had a single check back on our food… My partner then took the last bite of his food and it was literally like we were being watched because then a waitress appeared and cleared our plates almost instantly… She asked if we wanted more drinks to which we did! I had a frose and my partner had a beer. We felt very uncomfortable sat at the table just drinking so we decided to were going to move to the bar instead as it was clear they wanted the table back. We asked for the bill and before we could even check the amount a lady came back and asked “is it cash or card?” To which my partner said “uh card?” Because we couldn’t believe how quick everything was… The bill came to £130 (we had our drink’s separate so this was just on food) we paid and went over to the bar feeling very rushed and thinking we would of gotten the same service in a fast...

Visited on a Monday lunchtime. When we arrived we were told that couple of items from the menu were unavailable, which is fair enough after a busy weekend. Only a couple of other tables were occupied so we were able to choose where to sit. Ordered drinks , 1 starter and mains..drinks arrived then the 1 starter and the problems started. Was told that the fish delivery hadn’t arrived so no fish and chips available…reluctantly ordered the vegan version ( tofu instead of fish, not really a substitute but not a fan of mussels or crab). And then we waited… for some considerable time..By now the place was filling up and diners who were seated shortly after us were getting their mains… a couple seated at another table had enquired as to where their food was and it appeared quickly afterwards..neither of the two waitress noticed we hadn’t got our mains and it took us a while to flag one down to ask can you check on our food. One word answer ‘Yes’ … no apparent concern or attempt at an apology.Gave it another 5 minutes and decided then if no food had appeared we would pay for what we had and leave. About 30 seconds before we had decided times up , our food arrived, again no apologies, in fact the food was placed on the table without a word. No one came back to check our meals were ok… which they weren’t, the food was decidedly average and we all picked at our dishes and left most of it. We asked for the bill which was brought to us in seconds… (seems they can take the money quickly enough!) again hardly a word uttered by the waitress, although she seemed to be waiting for a tip. When it became apparent we weren’t going to oblige, she simply walked away. We left and if ever in St Ives again will give the place...

Visited yesterday with my partner - picked this place due to the vegan options available for me and my partner being able to still get fresh seafood. My partner said his food was lovely and really enjoyed it - I ordered the vegan jambalaya. The waitress put it down and I began eating it noticing that the seitan had been swapped out for tofu (I purposefully didn't order the other vegan dish because I didn't want tofu). When I asked her she went back to the kitchen and said 'Sorry they didn't have any so they just swapped it.' She did offer to swap it for something else but the only other vegan option had tofu as well and my partners food had already been put down. Would have been nice if the chef had communicated this before starting to cook the order before essentially either giving me the option to return the dish and watch my partner eat his food, or just hopefully be happy with what he presented. Also, soy (tofu) and wheat (seitan) are two of the biggest allergens in the food industry, to swap them without any communication that this had been done could have ended in disaster. The waitress was lovely, discounted some items from the menu and apologised - but shameful on the chefs part to not communicate this to us and a breach of health practices to let me start eating it without information me of such a massive change. If you eat fish then seems alright, don't think I'd recommend if you have dietary...
