So... i/ we have stayed at this pub/ inn with rooms, several times before- always around xmas, and its disappointing to see it slowly but steadily falling from grace. It's the price you see. For a £150.00 room b and b, there are some 'value added' needs and they are now missing presumed lost. Staff were in all cases fine... no complaints, but in our Admirals room the state of the bathroom did not do service to the well manicured and exceptionally well primed bedroom.. tired, tired and, well, tired. The bedroom was very comfy..tv one of the best.. Netflix, iplayer all available...and comfortable bed ( tho pillows could be less hard)... and so to the food and drink. We hoped for the advertised( all over the bar) cocktails to start the xmas jaunt, but they were refused... no sorry, or reason..that was most disappointing ...and then breakfast. Hmmm it's been decades since a yogurt was provided with 49p advertised on its side for a ' proper' breakfast...this along with a plastic surrounding bag around the pain au chocolat! The cooked salmon and scrambled egg were lovely..and the restaurant decor prompted nicely, but let down by this weird aberration! So...must do better ( a lot) for the money...location is not everything in this instance.. and we will not be returning.

We went to celabrate my sister birthday, it was 3 of us. Sea food plater was good but is not a meal as there is no side with it or bread is just what you see, a few leaves as a bed doesnt count has salad, I would say this is more a starter than a meal for 2 as advertised, the price was £49, I loved the mussels with whine and cream served with this, that was spot on. We also had the paelha which had a good amount of prawns and mussels but the rice didnt taste good and that was not a paelha, read rice with prawns and muscles is not a paelha. There was an old lady clearing tables outside that came to our table about 10 times while we where eating asking over and over again if we had finished eating to clear the table and making comments like "oh you still going".. when we where still eating, very unconfortable. The inside doesnt look clean or pleasent to dark, tables to small on top of eachother and the ladies toilet was really bad. We only went for the seafood plater.

Update: 9th October 2024. Well what can I say…. Disappointed. Our family have been coming to The Sloop Inn for over 20 years. And I feel that I need to update my review. It used to be a lovely place to eat. Came here this year, for lunch, both in May & today ( 9th October 2024) both times 1 meal must have been forgotten, 2 of us were nearly finished eating my the time the 3rd dish came out. The portions are small compared to the cost of the dishes. A large glass of basic pinot was just under £10! It’s a beautiful pub, inside & out, but until the service & food improves ( I’ll keep an eye on reviews) We’ll give this pub a miss. Does the management read the reviews because there are so many bad ones? Do they care? —————————————— Original review 6 years ago. Every time My family & I visit Cornwall we will always try & visit this pub. Great Food, great portions, friendly staff & dog friendly . A great pub with loads of history.

Today I attended The Sloop for a meal with my family. We ordered food at the bar and was told there would be a 30 minute wait…which we didn’t mind. After waiting for 30 minutes, our food was served in drips and drabs. Eventually we all got our food, my mum was served the wrong toastie, we ordered bacon and Brie and we were served ham and cheese; we also ordered calamari, which was stone cold, we stopped one of the members of staff and informed them of this, he took the calamari and toastie away and stated it would be a few minutes before we would receive the correct order.

Some more calamari was sent to us, again still stone cold! At this point we still hadn’t received the toastie. We waited a further 20 minutes and still no toastie had appeared. At this point we were really unsatisfied as we had come for a meal as a family and weren’t eating as a family!!

Myself and my partner went into the pub to complain, the supervisor on shift issued a refund for the calamari and the toastie and chips…however this wasn’t the point we had spent £66.50 for a family meal and we’re served luke warm food and we weren’t even eating together. When we went into the pub hot meals were sat on the side and the staff seemed to have no idea where the food was going!

We came to leave the pub and my partner saw a young lady with blonde hair come out and said ‘I hope there food is warm’…to which your member of staff replied “fucking tosser”…this is absolutely unacceptable and dam right rude!! I informed another lady who was outside and she said there was little she could do. We then went into the pub and spoke to the same supervisor who wasn’t much help either…the lady who swore continued to deny what she said however 4 other tables which were outside heard her. If that’s what your pub calls customer service and customer satisfaction…I am absolutely disgusted. I work as a nurse in a hospital and would never dream to speak to anybody...

We have been coming to The Sloop for many years. The beer and location are brilliant and the food is usually pretty good too. Unfortunately, not today when we popped in for a late-ish lunch. In the past we have enjoyed sandwiches or toasties for lunch, usually ordered with a side of chips. When we checked the menu toasties are no longer available but there was a list of various sandwiches which 2 of us ordered. The 3rd member of our party decided on crab pate with toast. I opted for Davidstow cheddar, on granary brea, without the red onion. What I received was a small amount of fairly tasteless grated cheese on plain, without butter/spread, dry wholemeal bread that you can buy in any supermarket. The 2nd sandwich was pulled lamb on toasted brioche and that’s what was presented. It was declared ‘Ok’ but didn’t justify a £9.95 price tag. Both sandwiches were supposed to come with a ‘dressed salad’. This consisted of a bit of watercress that looked slightly damp but had no discernible taste of any dressing. The 3rd order was Crab Pate. This turned out to be a dish of pinkish ‘slop’ that looked like it had come out of a squeezy bottle! It was accompanied by 3 thin slivers of baguette that may have had a quick look at the toaster as it was carried passed. Again this was priced at £9.95. Oh and mustn’t forget the bowl of standard chips we ordered as a side - they cost £5.00 as do all sides! Whilst these prices are fairly standard for St.Ives the quality and presentation of what we received isn’t! A very, very disappointing experience which we won’t be repeating anytime soon! Such a shame to see that the standards of this great St.Ives institution have...
