I lived here ,all of my sixty odd years, and it has always been badly maintained ,the money is there in grants but not given too the right people too spend. My own father said ,Portland is renowned for sculptors why not get them too carve ,seats ,we as locals wanted too plant daffodils..I think we did around the seat ,where my brother died .. More trees and more planting more care if the trees already there . And better policing of the drugs problem underneath portwey bridge.(165 syringes picked up by the council litter team in a two month period). And speeding cyclist..who quite frankly don't give a damm about the elderly ,children ,or pets,IE dogs .only their own selfish enjoyment of riding without giving the appropriate warning..! One of the reasons I'm standing for council again, and will insist that the "community ", police man/woman,will walk with me ,and stop and penalise the offender's Why is it fair that one local with a Labrador ,who had its collarbone broken by a cyclist who rode off, should have too pay £1500..... The photo ,is the wreathe I made after my big brother committed suicide on the trail the very spot where we as kids played all summer....as did all the others from downclose estate. Fair enough we stole apples of the posh ,sanddfoot, but that's was only too make apple pie too feed all us kids ,played havoc with the local fishermen..got up too all mischief, willy haylock ,throwing wet seaweed down the funnel if the shunter at whiteheads, and the driver shouting at us,with a blackened face . The commanders sloop sinking after being torpedoed from the factory.. The farmers firing his twelve bore at us ,as we paddled up the fleet.. Endless stories..

My father used too travel too work,on the train powered by a steam locomotive, during the war years, and the tales he could tell, about the station master at Rodwell halt, where they uncoupled one of the shunters, because from then on the gradient went down too the sea,at whiteheads. Where we as kids, use too stand in the footbridge and get enveloped in steam as the train passed by underneath. Like the railway children. And willy haylock use too run down too the beach ,collect damp seaweed, and lov it down the funnel of the waiting shunter whilst he was waiting for the points too change ,to pick up the scrap from Vickers torpedo works. The fireman, use too appear with a blackened face, and just the whites of his eyes showing showing expletives... As willy made off. Followed by me a toddler. The trail has reverted back too nature..and is a green lung for the residents who use her. Most wander along catching up on local gossip with children and pets in tow. But they have too be very wary of fast cyclist who don't give any warning on approach,no consideration at all..!!! And there's a lot of fly tipping in certain parts..!! I cycle the trail, mainly too chesil beach. And I pass a certain spot where my brother died. So I gave mixed emotions . .As a family ,with others we spent many a summer along southside.. Which is now mostly windsurfers..

My father's family lived next too the railway line during The second world war. Anderson shelter.most nights. He travelled as did many others on the train too Vickers. Too service the fleet. And use too dip a piece of paper in red ink too avoid paying the half penny. Remembers the troops going off ,and leaving money chocolate everything. Remembers the corporal in charge of the American NAAFI saying don't steal one tin of peaches take the whole carton. The yanks thought they liberated Us. But dad says we would have fought tooth and nail too save every inch of Britain.. I remember willy haylock putting wet seaweed down the smoke stack of the steam train and the driver shouting obscenities with just the whites of his eyes showing.. Loads of stories too tell. One was my brother and cousin and many others committing suicide. On and near. It. I lived and breathed grew up on the trail. Saw things that make your hair do somersaults.
