From my wife: First time using this company. It was so disappointing, I could cry. I had a consultation, wasn’t allowed to take a pictures of her drawing until I committed to go with the company (1st red flag). I was promised to have a second consultation to confirm project details. I never received one (2nd red flag), just a notification that I was scheduled for install. The installers arrived and had measuring questions (3rd red flag). The installers should’ve had questions as there was no second consultation to confirm all details. During the install the design was not installed correctly. Reached out to my designer, she never responded (4th red flag). I had the installers write on the paper prior to signing regarding the issues. I did not receive a call back (5th red flag). I called the following week to follow up. No one knew what the problem was (6th red flag). Mind you, I was told during my first consultation that my designer would be with me throughout the entire experience checking in/following up. That never happened (7th red flag). When I spoke to a Brandi, she became defensive when I got so frustrated that no one seemed to care after I paid. She kept making comments such as “that’s not what the designer said” And “the installers said it was done correctly!” when even on the paperwork, it wasn’t done to correct specifications. The overall project lacks attention to detail and was cheaply installed (glue in areas when it should’ve been screwed). After speaking to a manager, who acknowledged the ball had been dropped numerous times, had a supervisor come out to fix all the concerns. While the supervisor was present, one of the panels just fell off as it wasn’t even screwed down. It was just a mess. The supervisor, Jeff, made me feel validated regarding my concerns. He was very kind. After everything, I never even received a follow up after the project was done by either the designer, Mary, nor the manager (8th red flag). Very disappointing. I have other projects in my home, but will go through California Closests again. We have used them for our master closet, daughters closet’s and entertainment section in the living room. They are more expensive, but the quality, details, communication has been unmatched. Definitely regret not going through them. Will use them for our wine wall with glass doors and laundry room. Unfortunately, I will be proactively telling people to skip...
Read moreClosets by Design (and all other closet companies I imagine) has a basic business plan. Step 1. Design cabinets. Step 2. Install cabinets. Step 3. Profit. This plan may not always be easy to execute as many problems can arise if even one step is partially unsuccessful. I digress.
My experience w/CbD was amazing and I would not hesitate to use them again. First, my designer, Shonda, was very conscientious and methodical in designing the areas (laundry closet and storage room). You will have zero problems if you design with Shonda. So, Step 1 was successful.
Before installation, so many other things went frustratingly sour during my overall renovation. Contractors didn’t communicate, companies delivered shoddy products, and some companies just quit in the middle of their projects. One can imagine what this process does to the psyche. CbD installation was the very last step, so suffice it to say my nerves were so frazzled. I just “knew” that something would go wrong and I couldn’t even sleep the week prior. Yes, custom closets are stressful.
Well, I rested easy. Nelsy and J. arrived on time, scoped out the area, and got to work. I was able to get my own work done without getting interrupted with problems or excessive questions. In the end, I had an amazing storage room and laundry closet. Step 2, check! The attention to detail was amazing. A lot of times an installer will just do shoddy work, shrug their shoulders, and then the customer is left to their own devices to find a solution. That did not happen here. Everything turned out so meticulous and well worth the time and money spent. I already have plans to call again for more rooms and closets. I’m very happy and never imagined I would have such beautiful...
Read moreDo not use this company. Pick one of the multiple other cabinetry companies. Closetsbydesign will tell you everything you want to hear, but the reality is their designers are inexperienced and their install crews make a lot of mistakes. I've had a walk in closet done where the install crew has come back for the 4th time now because they can't measure and cut a piece of glass that is supposed to sit on top of a counter to the right size. 3 months and 4 attempts later the glass is still not the right size. I have a laundry room where the designer has designed my countertop to be at 45" above the floor. What cabinetry designer doesn't know that standard countertop height for a tall counter is 42"? And the designers response was - well I wasn't responsible for the countertop" and "you signed off on the drawings". Yeah I signed off on the drawings - a mess of lines and notes and numbers. Since when is customer supposed to be the expert and supposed to catch mistakes that the designer made? What kind of service is that? What kind of a business model is that? I will never be using closetsbydesign again. This is not a real cabinetry company. A real cabinetry company would not be making the repeated mistakes that closetsbydesign has, and would not be offloading responsibility onto the customer as closetsbydesign is doing. Don't believe the hype. Don't be fooled by the marketing pictures. They will screw you over and leave you with a bad result that you will either have to pay an arm and a leg to get right, or you will just regret the...
