CAFE 214 — Restaurant in Addison

I made a reservation and purchased a Mimosa Tower for my birthday brunch for their Rhythms and Brunch Sunday. We arrived a little after 4 pm and immediately taken to our table. After being seated at 4:06, a young lady came over to ask us if we wanted a hookah, which we declined. After that, we had to flag down two waitresses. The first waitress we stopped at 4:26, no one had given us water, nothing. I asked her who our waitress was, and she pretended to be concerned. She walked over to the kitchen entrance area and then turned around and went back to cleaning tables. 10 more minutes passed, and at 4:36, I flagged down another waitress who did the same! I got up and asked the hostess, who was our server, when I would get my mimosa tower. She gave us water, and it took another 10 minutes before someone came over. By this time, a young lady came and offered us a shot. I wanted food and the mismosa tower that I paid for. She was able to get the tower sent over, and one of the ladies we stopped earlier was bringing it over with another person! Shortly after that, a young woman who had been serving and sitting with the ladies and another couple in front of us states she is sorry and new and didn't know she was our server. We sat for over 40 minutes while waitresses cleaned tables and closed other people out with NO SERVICE. Mind you, when you purchase the towers, there is no refund, so I wasn't leaving until I had it! After finally getting served our food around 5;20, we noticed we were basically the only patrons left . We ate lukewarm food and asked to speak to the manager. His attitude about the situation was upsetting. He gave excuses that they were short-staffed. They didn't look short to me when plenty were walking around cleaning off tables. He pretended to NOT KNOW his own employees when described. He kept asking what we wanted him to do about it?!?! Sir, this is your establishment. You should have been walking around to ensure all patrons were serviced. Secondly, when patrons tell you about their poor experience or lack thereof, FIX IT! I will NEVER spend another dime here! We ordered curry chicken, jerk chicken, beans and rice, and cabbage, and got meat pies and wings to go. The chicken had good flavor, but everything else was just okay, and like I said earlier, it was all lukewarm. This wasn't the best kick-off to my birthday week, but my friends were good about it. Booked a table here for 2/19/22 to celebrate a birthday. For starters the place clearly overbooked as when my party arrived our table was already given away (yes we arrived before the 11:30 time that was indicated on the website and confirmation). After being set at a different table, the original purchaser of this table came over visibly upset. Just to be clear, the remedy to fixing the issue of giving away our table, was to give us another parties table. Fast forward to ordering the bottle, the waitress was extremely rude and short as she was pressuring the table to spend $200 before midnight. This was understandable as you had to meet the minimum to keep the table, however this could’ve been achieved without being rude or pushy. After ordering a bottle of Apple Ciroc, no more than 1 minute later I asked could we switch to Crown Apple instead. Keep in mind not enough time has even passed for the waitress to walk away. She immediately told me it was too late as she had already rung up the order. I mentioned to her that not even a few minutes had passed and asked were the bottles the same price which she denied, and I later found out there were. My sister who paid for the bottle and tipped 20% for a total of $250 was appalled by the lack of courtesy and asked to speak with the owner/manager. They had words, I can’t say what was said as I missed the greater part of the conversation and she left. The owner reached out to me the next day to tell me that he spoke with the waitress who it all began with, and she said she had no issue exchanging the bottle. I let him know that she was lying, as my whole party witnessed this and were all confused about her attitude and lack of professionalism. I let the owner know that this wasn’t proper customer service, and this was a perfect opportunity to rectify the situation instead of justifying. Long story short, the vibe of the place was fine once everything calmed down however, the communication and lack of customer service is the reason myself or my friends will not be returning. I definitely enjoyed the ambiance of the place we came here for a SUNDAY FUNDAY experience. This was my first time, but my sister comes here frequently and raves about the food and drinks. It was so live when I walked in. the dj was great and mixing the best of the best music, there was a guy who took pictures who had a reasonable fee, the waitress we had was very patient and accommodating she gave great suggestions and answered any questions. This place is packed on Sundays so make sure you make a reservation. We had a group of 5 women. The only negative thing I can say is that we waited 2 hours to get our food. It upset us to see people who came in after us eating before us, so we politely spoke to the manager and he came and was able to reasonably accommodate our table. That act of taking ownership made me feel like a valued customer. Once we received our food which was delicious and so very tasty I was feeling fat and full. The shrimp and grits were full of flavor and the portion was filling, mac and cheese was unforgettable and something I have a taste for right now. Greens were on point and the lamb chops were so tender and seasoned and cooked to perfection. But them chicken wings must've flown from heaven to the pan and into my tummy I tore that food up. No I did not order all that at one sitting I was eating off everyone's plates just so I could do this review. Although we waited 2 hours for the food seeing how we were treated for our inconvenience re-established my faith in spending my hard earned money at this business/establishment. You will not be disappointed, this place is a whole vibe and I plan on coming back and will definitely bring some people here with me to experience this place.
