I really try to support black owned restaurants to the fullest. This spot I’ve visited more than once and it’s always a hit and a miss. My first time the music and crowd was not a match with the decor. But we stayed for the food and it was delicious. Especially the oxtails. Also our waitress was hard to locate and we noticed she was dancing at the managers table and smoking hookah. We went again recently only for the oxtails bc it’s not our vibe with the environment. So that lets you know how much we enjoyed the food. The issues began with the arrival. We were told there would be a 20 min wait, but it was well over an hour. They ran out of oxtails, we ordered several entrees and the specialty cocktail…just to enjoy the food. (Lamb chops with brussel sprouts, jerk chicken, calimari, and the pasta with both chicken and shrimp. The cocktail and water glasses had lipstick, water spots or both. When we informed the waitress she literally poured the drinks we had in clean glasses instead of making us a fresh drink in a clean glass when it costs $18 for a drink you expect it to be made as pictured and in a clean glass. While talking the bus boys kept the table clean which was great but they quickly took our unfinished side away before we noticed it and attempted to take a full cocktail l that hadn’t been touched. We asked for the owner who gave us a lot of dramatic sighs and complaints of the staff that night. He didn’t at minimum offer to make us fresh drinks nor even to replace our taken side of Brussel sprouts. We were a party of two and spent over $200 including the Now automatic 20% tip that isn’t shown anywhere! We came to truly enjoy the food, even though we didn’t care for the music the second time but the first time it was a 90s vibe. They have an amazing chef whoever he is. The staff needs to be retrained from the waitresses to the bartender to the bus boys To the host at the front Door. I would even say management as well in regards to customer service. They have such a beautiful establishment with good food, but the service is huge and in this case it’s sub par in comparison to the price and quality you should receive. I hope that they are able to re-shift and transition their customer service skills because the food being delicious is only gonna keep your crowd for so long. Getting clean glassware should be a minimal expectation. I was very disappointed and the owner not trying to rectify anything from my experience not even just putting us a fresh cocktail in a clean glass. Or replacing the brussels sprouts that we didn’t finish nothing other than come back, even after we told him this experience made it to the point where we don’t want to return.. If it’s your crowd, it’s worth going for the food if it’s not then definitely get it to go because the customer service needs a lot of work. I am really sad Because I love the oxtails but I cannot give them anymore of my money when it wasn’t appreciated. Extremely disappointed that I can’t continue to support a black owned business that has so much potential to thrive, but they aren’t working on that part of it. This is not to bash, it’s honest feed back for change. We would happily returned and spent $200 on food if we had...
Read moreThis place was great. It’s always wonderful finding a fun, delicious black owned restaurant. We had reservations so seating was easy, we were actually sat in front of the live music. It was a bit slow, but we came on Valentine’s Day. They were busy, but you barely noticed with the vibes. Our waitress was very kind and patient. She gave us honest opinions and we are so glad we listened. We didn’t get to picture the appetizers, but the boudin egg rolls were out of this world, cheesy and just right. The calamari was pretty good, we didn’t get to get the chili sauce but I personally would have liked some marinara. My friend ordered 3 “call her an Ubers”, they were strong but she enjoyed them (obviously because she ordered 3, 2 of the 3 came bubbly, pictured below without the cotton candy). The cotton candy drink was “love spell “ and was mine. It was very delicious, sweet and not too strong. We ordered 3 entrees, ate about half of all of them. We had the oxtails, lamb chops and catfish. The oxtails weren’t bad but they weren’t our favorite. They were tasty and plenty had good amounts of meat on them. The lamb chops and potatoes were amazing. We had them medium and they were juicy and tender. My favorite of all was the catfish. I would come back just to order the seafood platter again. The catfish was out of this world. Amazingly seasoned, juicy, thick, it came with 3 pieces of catfish, 4 shrimp and fries. The fries were seasoned as well and also very good. I don’t personally use much sauce for my food so I can’t rank how good the sauces were with the catfish. Overall the catfish was my favorite. Everything came out hot and seemed fresh. The music was R&B there were plenty of 90s - 2000s played and towards the end it faded into current music occasionally. I’m uncultured and cannot truly identify what instrument todays act used but it was nice, jazzy and refreshing. He played it along with some R&B tracks in the background. The atmosphere was great. We ordered hookah after our meal and we’re allowed to enjoy it a bit longer than expected. We were notified a bit before we left of a wait, but as I mentioned I believe we lingered a bit longer than previously notified so it wasn’t a problem to finish our drinks and jet. I must also note it was very kind and not a rushing manner. ...
Read moreIf I could give this place 0 stars, I would. My friends brought me here for my birthday last night, and it was a complete nightmare. I really tried to let them take the lead, but I would never come back to this place.
First, my friend made a reservation over two weeks ago for 9:30 PM. She even called the day before, and no one mentioned anything about a $75 table fee. It felt like they made that up the same day just because there was a free fight streaming on Netflix, and they wanted to be greedy.
When we arrived, the music was blasting, kids were running around, and there was hookah everywhere—it was confusing whether this was supposed to be a restaurant, lounge, or daycare. We checked in on time, waited 15 minutes to be seated, and still no mention of the fee. After we sat down, not a single person came to greet us for over 30 minutes. My friend finally had to get up and ask for a waiter. When the server finally showed up, we ordered drinks and hookah, which we paid for right away.
Then a woman claiming to be the manager came over and told us about the $75 table fee. I explained the lack of service, and how there was no mention of this fee on the website. Her response? “There’s nothing I can do.” Instead of improving our experience, she asked my friend what we thought she should do—as if that’s not her job as a manager!
We ended up paying the fee, but then asked to speak to the owner. The first man was dismissive and argumentative. A second one came, and by that point, I was furious. Not only was my birthday ruined, but it was clear they didn’t care about their customers or their own reputation.
I’ll say this: you never know who’s sitting in your establishment. I am a very successful woman, and I will make sure people know how this business treats paying customers. Terrible service, shady fees, and zero accountability. Don’t waste your time or money here. We spent 200 and we only had 3 drinks and hookah. We paid fee and didn't stay . As we know other owners of other places . Saying this to say spend money where you are treated as...
