Great Bahn Mi!
And I thought it was just a clever name. But Google says it means "Hometown".
So far, so good: The place is bright, well staffed, and clean. A nice but kind of common modern motif.
Service was perfect. the staff was present but not overbearing. They showed up at just the right times to seat me, take my order and refill my drink and they were pleasant throughout the time.
The Bahn Mi was one of the better ones I've had. It was served on a fresh french roll with the lightest crust but the rest of the inside was very soft and chewy. No day old stuff here. They piled a very generous portion of meat onto it, nearly double what you might get at most other places without gouging the wallet. The sandwich wasn't smothered in Mayonnaise like a lot of other places tend to do. I was very happy about that. the meat was well cooked, and marinated and carried itself well. I would have liked a few more pickled veggies on the bottom, and some may prefer a little more cilantro (not me, though). Also, while I don't like my food to scorch my mouth, at least a couple think Jalapeno slices would have been nice. Next time, I'll just ask, though.
The grilled pork spring roll was great. You can find better in DFW but this one did not leave me disappointed at all. Again, a very generous portion of grilled pork inside, with nearly the perfect ration of noodles and veggies. The peanut sauce was a little less flavorful than most but, i tend to dress mine up with chili paste and hoisin sauce any way, so I'm perfectly fine with it.
All in all, I'm glad I dropped in. I'll need to go back and try the pho next. The menu is fairly big and there are several other things I'd like to get back in to try out, including the beef stew (if you like pho and have never had Vietnamese beef stew, you should probably...
Read moreCame here on a Thursday night with some friends to celebrate my recent move to Richardson. We were sat down right away with menus and waters. After a look through of the menu, we decided on shrimp and pork fried wontons (5.99$), grilled beef trio vermicelli (8.99$), grilled chicken and egg roll vermicelli (8.25$), Pho combination (7.50$), and spicy filet steak rice noodles soup (8.50$) aka bun bo hue. After 10 mins, the food came out nice and hot. The portion size here are decent for the price however, the pho and bun bo hue felt like it was smaller than what the server told us. Anyway, the vermicelli dishes were excellent. The meats of the vermicelli were fragrant, flavorful and nicely portioned. The soups bowls however were lacking in flavor. These were definitely not traditional especially the bun bo hue. I have had bun bo hue all my life and trust me this is not true bun bo hue. Overall, the food here are good and the service is nice and quick. A solid place for decent Vietnamese food. Just don’t get the bun bo hue (spicy filet steak...
Read moreI'm so disappointed. I enjoyed coming here because I enjoy their pho a lot, but the waitress that usually takes our order always seems to be in a rush. I didn't mind it most of the time, though it was always almost empty when we went. However, the reason I'm putting 1 star is because that same waitress told us to "hurry" to take our seats. They close at 10 PM... it was barely 9:15 PM... we sat down, and she instantly asked us what we wanted. We did not get a menu at all, by the way. My partner said pho, and she asked what kind, again, he didn't know because he had no menu. Without answering her question, she asked medium or large, and before he could answer, she turned to me and asked what I wanted and to hurry... I said I didn't know since I wanted something else other than pho, but again, we didn't have a menu, and she had a huge attitude, so we ended up leaving. I think this restaurant needs new staff that's not always in a terrible mood....
