The experience was fine, but for the price it should have been better. Everything about the experience was just one step off from good. Service started off well, but as the evening went on our waiter became more scarce, and barely checked in on us. The time between our salads and our entrees was longer than it should have been as well.
The food was verging on really good, but never quite reached that point. We had the Southern Deviled Eggs and Beef Crostini to start.
The Deviled egg filling was grainy, and in general they were pretty pedestrian. There was nothing outstanding or special about them. Very standard.
The beef crostini tasted wonderful but the bread to meat ratio was way off. There was so much bread that it made the small pieces of meat look under portioned. It had an anemic feel to it.
We both had the house salad which was supposed to have goat cheese and crispy chickpeas on it. My salad had plenty of chickpeas, but my husband only had two or three on his whole salad. We each got one very small piece of goat cheese that was smaller than a single chickpea. It is a real shame because my one bite of salad with the goat cheese was amazing. Without the goat cheese the salad was completely underwhelming.
I had the lemon caper chicken, which was honestly the best thing we had all night. The flavor was wonderful, and the portion size was a little excessive. The tomatoes were superfluous. They were unseasoned and seemed like an afterthought thrown on for the sake of adding color to the dish. The mashed potatoes were not good. They added nothing too the dish, and actually brought it down. There was a strange after taste to them that was off putting.
My husband had the Sea Bass with parmesan risotto. I desperately wish the risotto had been served with my chicken. It was fabulous. He said his fish was cooked well, it was just completely unseasoned. It was obviously relying solely on the sauce and risotto to make it edible, and there wasn't enough sauce to save it.
Because we were celebrating our anniversary we were given a complimentary dessert. This is always a nice gesture, but we were not given a choice in what we received, and that led to us having something we would not have ordered. The plate had some chocolate brownie mouse cake that was so rich that it made me regret my life choices. I love chocolate, but this was gratuitous in a bad way. The other half of the plate had a slice of cheese cake that gave cheesecake everywhere a bad name. The slice was small and looked like it had been sitting on a dessert display cart for two days. It looked dry and off colored. The taste was fine, but it wasn't fine dining quality. I've honestly has a more appetizing looking, and better tasting, cheesecake at Chili's. It is a shame because the other desserts we saw passing our table looked amazing. Honestly this was the worst part of the meal.
We were not offered any sort of dessert coffee or cocktail menu of any kind. Even with our dessert having been free, we expected some sort of offer for an after dinner drink. We were instead handed the check before we could even inquire. It felt almost as though they wanted us out of there, even though it was a slow Wednesday night as opposed to a bustling weekend.
The atmosphere was lovely. The piano player/singer was really good and we quite enjoyed his set. The decor was great, and it was very comfortable over all. It was the type of place where I wanted to sit and just enjoy myself.
Nothing was really bad, but nothing really was great. In the end everything was just...fine. I am not sure I would go back as I am not sure the experience met the...
Read moreMy wife and I drove from an hour away to celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary. The ladies at the front desk was one of the few bright spots of the night. They were welcoming and pleasant. The outside does not give the inside justice. It was a good atmosphere with the live band. I ordered the calamari for my appetizer and my wife had the tomato soup. The calamari was very skimpy on the calamari but heavy on the fried shoshito peppers. I mentioned it to our waitress Kelly who blew over my statement as if I was not talking at all. I chalked it up to being loud and her not understanding what I said. I would have took a pic but she took away the plate so fast. My wife enjoyed her soup. After we ordered our entre, we noticed tables around us were given bread as soon as they sat down. So we requested bread which we got halfway through our meal. I ordered the ribeye and my wife the lamb chops. My wife has food allergies to some berries and melons so we asked for a different sauce and for remaining sauce used to dress the plate to be on the side. So we got a side of bernaise because we were told besides the raspberry reduction its also a chimichuri oil not chimichuri sauce. I asked for creamy horseradish yet I was told they don't have it by Kelly. I found it strange that they have a steak appetizer with horseradish cream on crostini and prime rib on Monday nights but no creamy horseradish. So I made do. Our table had confetti for our Anniversary but never once was it acknowledged by the wait staff. The GM came through and was pleasant making small talk. My wife also wanted a drink so she got a lemon drop martini first. She is a light drinker so she likes fruity. For her second drink, she was recommended an orange lady "fruity" drink by Kelly. My wife gets her second drink and its an orange cocktail made with Jamieson Whiskey. She was so speedy and short with us in ordering things that my wife went on her fruity orange suggestion which was more suited for my palate so I took the drink since Kelly blew off our concerns. At this point I'm frustrated but not trying to ruin my Anniversary. I go to the restroom and return to find my wife with a blank look on her face. So Kelly comes back while I'm away and begins to clear the table with no regards to what she wanted boxed up. My wife just said screw but it was still some lambchop left on the bone. She dumped her leftover goat cheese bread pudding in the ribeye juices on my plate of leftovers and took her plate away. For over 13 years that we have been together we have celebrated milestones at some of the finest white tablecloth spots in the metroplex, this was one of the worst experiences. In some cases if the food is decent A1 service will put it over the top. I'm sad to say that this was not one of those instances. My suggestion is for more concern when customer are making any comments on their food. Our entire dinner seem like we were an after thought on a very...
Read moreMy wife and I had dinner at Table 13 on a Sunday evening before a holiday. We arrived at 7:30p and the restaurant was about 60% full. Our party had already been seated and served drinks in the ten minute gap between their arrival and ours. The exterior of the building does not instill confidence: the windows are blacked out and have menu categories written across them in yellow vinyl - steaks, lobster, etc. The interior, however, is quite nice. There are 'atom' chandeliers running down the seating area and large, framed pinup drawings on the walls. According to one employee, the pin ups have been touched up to change their rating from NC-17 to PG-13. The menu is standard steak house fare with a couple of exceptions like Steak Diane and Beef Wellington. We shared the calamari and escargot for starters which both arrived warm and in an appropriate amount of time. They were good - no better or worse than most. They accurately set the stage for the balance of the meal - good, but nothing exciting. We followed with the wedge salad for me and the lobster bisque for her. The salad was medium sized, plenty of dressing and good cheese. Perfectly acceptable if not memorable. The bisque was good: hot, mildly spicy with recognizable pieces of lobster meat. Again, acceptable but not memorable. They have a good selection of entrees including sea bass, bone-in pork chops and steaks in addition to the less common options mentioned earlier. We both selected the 16oz ribeye. Our steaks arrived hot and well cooked at medium rare. Mine arrived a little towards the medium end of the scale but not objectionably so. In keeping with the theme of the meal, they were good but not exceptional. The table shared the creamed spinach, mashed potatoes and lobster mac and cheese. Of the wide variety dishes we sampled, I would give the mac and cheese the highest rating. It had good sized pieces of lobster meat and had enough spice to set it apart from the middle of the road path traveled by the other dishes. All in all, I was completely satisfied with the experience for the price. The food, decor and service were all good. The problem is that I'm generally left not feeling much of anything, one way or another. I don't eat out as frequently as I once did and I generally select restaurants based on some individual greatness whether it's a particular dish, ambiance or fantastic service and Table 13 didn't have any of those things to me. I have a friend whose wife adores Beef Wellington and I expect this to their new go-to special occasion restaurant for that reason (and because the only other Dallas area restaurant that serves it is the Old Warsaw which may currently be the worst currently operating restaurant in the city). I don't know the table number where my next ribeye will be served, but it won't...
