2-Day Trip to Cleveland

Very nice outing. The Akron station was clean and well maintained. Lots of parking for vehicles and bikes. One line station attendant. There are no restrooms for the public. The attendant suggested walking a couple blocks to a hotel. When he gets olderwill come to realize what an insult that is to seniors. Trains ran on time and on schedule. We selected seats in the dome car. But the view would have been the same from the coaches. Each car had a staff member who provided a running commentary. Some are better than others. Cars were clean but well worn. The "Dining Car" had drinks and snacks that weren't too outrageous in price. A gift shop is in the dining car. The ride itself was smooth. We shared a table and really enjoyed chatting with folks. The dome car is significantly more narrow than standard coaches. The train doesn't turn around, as such. It would be like a car doing one leg in "Drive" and the return in "reverse." You never get to see the opposite side. The parking is lush and green but not really scenic, as such. It's probably spectacular in fall. In June it got boring. The price is reasonable. No one ever looked at our ticket. The conductor does a head count of people getting on and off. I can see doing a trip in the fall. Midpoint is a town called Penninsula. I can see getting off there for a meal/snack and then getting back on for the return. That would break up the trip a bit. I would give the CVSR a solid plus rating. We had a very nice day, met some very nice people and saw some interesting things.

Explore the backwoods of the Cuyahoga National park as you travel in a dated train. You can start your journey at either Akron or Peninsula station and get off wherever you please. Your paid ticket will hold your seat for the train run following yours but that is all. Each car is uniquely themed. There is only one bathroom per car and the aisles are tight. N Akron station only has port a Jon’s. The cafe car sits toward the back of the train. You can buy popcorn, snacks, drinks and buy souvenirs there. Sat in a dome car. It was in a/c comfort with music piped in throughout our trip. We had a train guide and a park ranger point out some of the sites along the way and the history behind them. Check out the Indian statue and dog park. Also got to see indigo lake, beaver marsh landing, an above ground sewer line, and the rapids of Cuyahoga river. Note the train does not turn around. Instead there are engines on both sides so you see the same thing which ever direction you go. Staff made us feel very welcome and was attentive to our needs. Recommend the dome car if you want to do a fall foliage trip since you literally are right next to the trees. The seats face each other booth style. Really enjoyed my visit here. Round trip took about 2 1/4 hours

We had another wonderful trip on the CVSR! This time we embarked via the Akron Depot and got off in Peninsula to enjoy lunch and a brief hike. There's about an hour and 45 min between when it drops off in Peninsula and when it picks back up for you to explore the quaint little town. After a hiatus, we were informed the 'Entertrainment' car had returned. This was new to us and the kids loved it. There was a train set/town to play with, some large train builds to play in, lots of fun facts, a scavenger hunt for the ride, and two cute resting/reading nooks. Definitely a great addition to the train and we hope it stays! Would love to see some added features in that space, and I personally want to hand glue fake leaves on what looks like is meant to be tree trunks and limbs along the sides of the train car. Would really warm the space up! Friendly, helpful staff. I know some of them are volunteers, so I extra appreciate their passion and desire to give back to the community. We love our CVSR!

So we were super stoked to do this train and well we should had known better when we went on line and it was the worse website ever. So we booked our tickets on line after my wife had called multiple times and left a message with no return call. We booked and I did will call tickets so we show up to get out tickets and the lady did not even have a clue just got to the train. We booked for the table car because the executive car was full. Well when we walked up they said we don’t book the table car so we went to the executive car not full at all. Hell the whole train was empty. There is not executive about the car except better seats. No food back here we have to walk 4 cars or so down to get it and so at that point you might as well pay the 15 or so for a regular car with nice seats. You see nothing on the train ride at all. Just got to the park. This is the biggest waste of money you will spend. And by the way all the cars smell like mold.

Booked a Silver Lariat seat for 10am on a Wednesday in October. Worth the price I'd say. Already seen most things north of Peninsula in Cuyahoga Valley National Park the day before, and this covered the southern part of the Park pretty well. The station has a big parking lot, and it was just a 1-minute walk to the train from there. Arrived just 10 minutes before departure time and didn't have any issues. The train does not make any turns, so you'll have the same view from your window going both ways. My table of 4 just switched with the ones next to us, so we could all enjoy both sides, east and west. The car had one restroom stall, which felt like the ones on an airplane in size. It was clean. The staff was very friendly and explained stuff nicely on our way over to Peninsula.
